Laundry Assistant

Job Summary

Responsible for all laundering activities of resident bed linen and personal linen within established guidelines. Follows set policies and procedures to ensure all linen is laundered to meet the personal needs and comfort of the resident.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Collect soiled linen from designated areas.
2. Transport collected items to the laundry area to be weighed; record the weight
3. Sort soiled linen while wearing proper protective equipment.
4. Load washers with proper amount of linen while wearing proper protective equipment.
5. Start washer on proper washing cycle.
6. Remove clean laundry from washer, place in cart, and transport to dryer.
7. Place clean laundry in dryer and select proper drying cycle.
8. Remove laundry from dryer and place in cart and transport to folding room.
9. Fold laundry according to department policy and procedure.
10. Place clean folded laundry into and onto carts for transportation to designated area.
11. Transport clean linen to designated area via cart or rack.
12. Sort personal linen and prepare for transport.
13. Hand iron resident personal linen or other items that may need ironed.
14. Transport personal linen to residents.
15. Launder all table linens.
16. Fold table linens, place on hanger, and hang them in designated area.
17. Unpack new linen upon arrival, wash, and then place on shelves.
18. Report equipment malfunctions to manager.
19. Keep laundry chemicals stocked on shelves.
20. Advise lead person when chemicals need ordered.
21. Replace chemicals for washers when needed.
22. Inspect equipment daily and report any malfunctions to lead person or manager.
23. Clean dryer lint screens daily.
24. Clean washer mesh bag, as needed or at least once per month.
25. Sweep and mop soiled sorting room and washer area floors daily.
26. Sweep all other floors in laundry area daily, mop weekly or as needed.
27. Clean soiled linen carts with a quart solution weekly or as needed.
28. Dispose of infectious waste in proper container.
29. Empty all garbage cans daily and take to dumpster.
30. Adhere to all department policies and procedures.
31. Attend meetings and training as directed by manager.
32. Other duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

May be required to work overtime or on a scheduled day off to meet the needs of the organization

Assist with fire drills at Cribbs

Working Conditions

This position works in a clean, well heated, cooled, lit, and ventilated area of the facility. Repeated bending, squatting, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling are required. Exposure to infectious diseases and infectious waste through soiled linens.

Job Qualifications Necessary to Perform Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to prioritize tasks.
• Must be able to read/interpret schedules and instructions on equipment and labels on laundry chemicals
• Sense of responsibility, moral integrity and common sense.
• Ability to cooperate with other personnel.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs, when needed through course of duties of the position.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat of harm to themselves, others or property.
• Must adhere to Wesbury's personnel policies and practices including, but not limited to, the attendance requirements.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration mandates that all healthcare facilities have a written Exposure Control Plan on Blood Borne Pathogens and Other Potential Infectious Materials in place and available for all employees to review as needed. As part of this plan, a copy of the Task Evaluation and Classification Form must be made as part of each job description. The next page of this job description is a copy of that form. It indicates the tasks likely to be performed during this job, the type of body fluid/substances to which exposure is likely, volume, probability of exposure, route of exposure, and protective barriers which are to be employed. All employees hired will be fully trained on Blood Borne Pathogens and Other Potential Infectious Materials Exposure Control Plan on the day of hire or prior to initial assignment. Along with this training, all employees will be provided with a copy of the Task Evaluation and Classification Form related to the job description.
