Position Overview

The Director of Finance / Divisional Controller is the senior finance leader for a national organization's programs, covering National, Summer, and regional operations. Acting as a trusted advisor to program leadership and a core member of the broader finance team, this person owns the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and planning; leads the divisional finance team; and makes sure leadership has clean, decision-ready information before decisions get made. It's a player-coach role, equal parts accounting rigor, forward-looking analysis, operational judgment, and hands-on team leadership in a complex, multi-program environment.

Core Responsibilities

• Lead the finance team, set priorities, assignments, and standards; hold staff accountable; assess capability/capacity; help define and recruit needed roles
• Own the annual budget process across national, summer, and regional operations; establish clear budget ownership and prepare materials for senior and lay leadership
• Drive an accurate, dependable monthly close and timely variance reporting against budget for all levels of leadership
• Produce quarterly revenue and expense forecasts; track major programs against plan and flag risks, opportunities, and expected year-end results early
• Partner closely with the large-scale summer program on economics, pricing, enrollment, revenue recognition, cost structure, fundraising assumptions, staffing, and close
• Advise regional directors and administrative staff; ensure timely local financial activity; set clear policy for restricted gifts, surpluses, deficits, and approvals
• Support grants and fundraising with financial data, budgets, and reporting for grant requests and donor solicitations
• Improve controls, cost discipline, and reporting processes; strengthen information flow and accountability
• Help define the operating model and responsibilities across finance, shared services, and regional teams
• Serve as the finance stakeholder for ERP/NetSuite and other system changes affecting close, reporting, or forecasting

What We're Looking For

• Senior finance leadership experience with ownership of budgeting, forecasting, monthly close, and management reporting
• Proven people leadership performance management, team development, role design, accountability
• Strong accounting and operating judgment; able to diagnose root causes and translate financial issues into decisions
• Experience in a complex, multi-program or multi-unit environment; nonprofit or mission-driven background preferred
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills with senior leaders and regional teams
• Bachelor's in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field required; CPA, MBA, or comparable credential preferred
• NetSuite or similar ERP experience preferred
