Registered Nurse (RN) In Long-Term CareThe Registered Nurse must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan. They must possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs. The RN provides direct and indirect skilled nursing care for assigned residents. They follow defined policies and procedures under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The RN maintains a collaborative relationship with other nursing staff, physicians, and ancillary staff. Maintaining an appropriate level of knowledge and clinical expertise through continuing education is essential. The RN must have the ability to provide care to geriatric residents.Job Duties:Collects data relevant to residents' physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis and communicates findings to supervisors and other members of the interdisciplinary team.Contributes to the creation of a developmentally age-appropriate and culturally relevant plan of resident care reflecting nursing diagnosis and interventions.The RN engages the resident and family in the process while promoting a healthy, safe environment.Recommends revisions to the plan of care after evaluating resident outcomes and indicates the need for referrals to ensure all aspects of the resident's care have been addressed.Collaborates with the resident and family members within the scope of nursing practice assuring satisfaction.Maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing practice and participates in mentoring and orientation of staff.The RN considers factors related to safety, cost, and impact while planning the delivery of care.Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, they provide leadership in the professional practice setting.Demonstrates knowledge and competency in nursing practice.Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is reasonably anticipated.
