Job Description

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, high-quality meals for students, faculty, and staff in accordance with established recipes, portion standards, and food safety regulations. This position assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen while providing excellent customer service.

Food Preparation

• Prepare breakfast, lunch, snacks, and other menu items according to standardized recipes.
• Cook, bake, grill, roast, steam, and prepare a variety of foods.
• Ensure meals are prepared on time and meet quality and presentation standards.
• Properly portion and serve food.
• Assist with meal setup and service.

Kitchen Operations

• Assist with daily kitchen operations and food production.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of all kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Wash, sanitize, and store kitchen equipment, utensils, and cookware.
• Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries using proper food rotation (FIFO).

Food Safety & Sanitation

• Follow all food safety and sanitation procedures.
• Maintain proper food temperatures during preparation, holding, and service.
• Practice safe food handling and storage.
• Clean and sanitize workstations, equipment, and dining areas.
• Comply with all local, state, and school health regulations.

Inventory Support

• Notify the Chef Manager of low inventory or supply needs.
• Assist with stocking and organizing food and supplies.
• Help reduce food waste through proper portioning and storage.

Customer Service

• Provide friendly and professional service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
• Maintain a positive and welcoming dining environment.
• Respond courteously to meal service requests.

Teamwork

• Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure efficient meal service.
• Assist with catering and special school events as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Chef Manager.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous cooking experience in a school, restaurant, healthcare, or institutional kitchen preferred.
• Knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
• Food Handler's Permit required; ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow written and verbal instructions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to work in hot, cold, and fast-paced kitchen environments.
