Host/Hostess Job Description

Position: Host/Hostess
Reports To: General Manager / Shift Manager

Position Summary

The Host/Hostess is the first and last impression our guests have of Maple House. This position is responsible for creating a warm, welcoming experience while managing guest flow, maintaining accurate wait times, and supporting the dining room team to ensure exceptional hospitality.

Essential Responsibilities

• Welcome every guest with a genuine smile and friendly greeting.

• Open doors for guests whenever possible.

• Manage the waitlist and seating chart efficiently.

• Seat guests according to server rotation and table availability.

• Accurately quote wait times and communicate delays professionally.

• Answer the restaurant phone promptly and courteously.

• Assist guests with reservations, takeout orders, and general inquiries.

• Keep the entrance, waiting area, and host stand clean, organized, and fully stocked.

• Monitor the dining room and communicate with managers regarding table availability.

• Assist with cleaning and resetting tables when needed.

• Escort guests to their table and provide menus.

• Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.

• Maintain a positive attitude during busy periods.

• Support servers and management whenever needed to ensure excellent guest service.

• Follow all restaurant policies regarding cleanliness, food safety, and guest service.

Qualifications

• Friendly, outgoing personality.

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

• Professional appearance and demeanor.

• Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented.

• Ability to remain calm under pressure.

• Previous restaurant experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

• Ability to bend, reach, and move throughout the restaurant.

• Ability to work days, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

Performance Expectations

A successful host/hostess will:

• Make every guest feel welcomed within 30 seconds of entering.

• Maintain accurate wait times.

• Ensure balanced seating among servers.

• Keep the entrance clean and inviting at all times.

• Communicate effectively with managers, servers, and kitchen staff.

• Deliver genuine hospitality with every guest interaction.
