Surgical Assistant

Functions as Surgical First or Second Assistant to the surgeon for complex and basic operative or invasive procedures. Responsible for performing a variety of procedures or may specialize in a surgical specialty where appropriate. May perform responsibilities of a Surgical Technologist if required but not simultaneously while functioning as first assist. Experience with neuro, ENT, orthopedic, and general surgical procedures is essential. Candidates should be able to detail the procedures they are familiar with, specifically in vascular, robotic, and ENT specialties. Supports on the unit include Charge Nurse, Leads, and Supervisors. Charting system used is EPIC. Cross-training is required for all main OR specialties. Variable start times for day shifts may occur. On-call duties require a 30-minute response time. Holiday availability may be necessary, and schedules will be subject to departmental needs. Surgical scrubs will be provided, and scrub caps are allowed but must be covered by a surgical bouffant. The facility offers amenities such as a café on campus.
