Wellness PR Senior Director

Title: Senior Director of Wellness

Position Reports To: Senior Vice President

Basic Function: Support and partner with the Head of Wellness in overseeing and executing day-to-day communications efforts on behalf of Studio Beauty clients. Develop original, strategic ideas to promote brands and brand strategies with a focus on securing impactful placements across print, digital, podcast, broadcast, and emerging media. This role is ideal for someone who lives and breathes wellness, health, fitness, sports, and performance, is deeply immersed in the industry's evolving trends, brands, creators, and culture, and is passionate about building meaningful connections that help clients become leaders in the space. Oversee internal account teams and external client relationships while driving the continued growth, performance, and success of the Wellness division.

Essential Duties:

• Partner closely with the Head of Wellness to support the strategic direction and continued growth of the Wellness division, helping to drive client success, team development, and innovative opportunities within the health, wellness, fitness, and sports space.
• Lead creative and strategic client planning initiatives from concept through execution to achieve client goals.
• Demonstrate strong contacts and relationships with editorial media across the health, wellness, fitness, sports, lifestyle, beauty, and consumer industries, with a proven track record of securing quality placements.
• Pitch stories, build talking points, compose media releases, and secure business features, brand features, trend stories, profile pieces, and award opportunities.
• Serve as the final reviewer for all client and press-related content, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
• Act as a senior client leader by providing strategic counsel, leading client communications, and driving larger editorial and thought leadership initiatives aligned with each client's brand voice.
• Lead client meetings, media briefings, interviews, desksides, activations, and presentations.
• Oversee activation strategies, including budgets, timelines, execution, and recap reporting.
• Conceptualize and oversee paid and organic influencer and tastemaker programs that drive awareness and measurable results.
• Build and maintain strategic relationships with influencers, athletes, fitness professionals, talent, media, and industry partners while expanding Studio Beauty's network.
• Manage and mentor managerial and junior staff by delegating responsibilities, reviewing work, providing ongoing coaching, and fostering professional development.
• Maintain an understanding of affiliate platforms and collaborate with client affiliate teams to maximize strategic opportunities.
• Partner with senior leadership and Accounting to ensure timely billing, budgeting, and financial management of client projects and vendor relationships.
• Lead the overall strategy, performance, and growth of the Wellness division, ensuring alignment with company goals.
• Partner with the Senior Vice President on business planning, staffing, resource allocation, and operational priorities.
• Support new business development by participating in pitches, developing proposals, and identifying opportunities to grow existing client relationships.
• Establish divisional goals and best practices while driving operational excellence and a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
• Represent Studio Beauty within the health, wellness, fitness, and sports industry through networking, industry events, and thought leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

• At least 8–10 years of experience in health, wellness, fitness, sports, beauty, or consumer communications.
• Previous experience managing teams and overseeing multiple client accounts.
• Self-motivated, strategic thinker with the ability to work well under pressure and independently.
• Deep understanding of the health and wellness industry and/or fitness and sports landscape.
• Established relationships with top-tier health, wellness, fitness, sports, lifestyle, and consumer media, with a proven ability to secure impactful earned media coverage and identify compelling story angles.
• Experience developing strategic PR campaigns for health, wellness, fitness, sports, or consumer brands, including product launches, founder thought leadership, and brand storytelling that drives awareness and industry credibility.
• Action-oriented, resourceful, and creative thinker with a strong attention to detail.
• Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, manage multiple personalities, and oversee several clients simultaneously.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Workspace, and Muck Rack (preferred).
