Pharmacy Technician Training Program Manager

Delivers classroom, web-based learnings, and hands on pharmacy technician training for newly hired pharmacy staff and trains existing staff on new initiatives as needed. Develops training materials including testing and validation materials with input from pharmacy leadership. Evaluates need for follow up training and implements as necessary to ensure pharmacy technician staff maintain necessary skills as system upgrades and changes are implemented. Ensures all pharmacy technicians complete annual competencies and aids in development of competency assessments. Responsible for the maintenance of our Florida Board of Pharmacy approved Pharmacy Technician Training Program and for ensuring all necessary procedures are followed. Facilitates the issuing of certificate of completion to those successfully passing the pharmacy technician exam following completion of necessary hours and aids in submission to the Florida Board of Pharmacy for pharmacy technician registration. Responsible for maintenance of the training documents and files for all pharmacy technician trainees. Serves as hiring manager for all pharmacy technician trainees and is responsible for overseeing the recruitment process for identifying pharmacy technician trainee applicants and selecting trainees for the program.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Education, Experience, and Training:

1. EDUCATION: a. High school diploma or equivalent required. College level study in pharmacy, health care, education, basic sciences, or management desired.

2. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: a. At least three years of pharmacy technician experience or previous supervisory experience required. b. Experience as an Educator and/or management preferred. c. Formal presentation and/or teaching experience preferred.

3. JOB KNOWLEDGE/CHARACTERISTICS: a. Successful completion of all competencies required for the Pharmacy Technician Level 3 position. b. Ability to lift 30+ pounds. c. Ability to operate calculator, telecommunication equipment, and computer workstation d. Demonstrates knowledge of contemporary pharmacy services/operations. e. Experience with word processing, presentation development software, spreadsheet and database management programs preferred. f. Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills. g. Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and independently identify and resolve problems. h. Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to effective working relationships both inter- and intra-departmentally. i. Demonstrated ability to integrate education and service activities. j. Exceptional knowledge and/or aptitude may be considered in lieu of experience.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

1. All Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician.
2. Must present proof of current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) status to be eligible to apply for position.

Additional Requirement: As a condition of employment within the Pharmacy Services Department of Shands Hospital all employees must be accessible by telephone. This requires each employee to provide a valid telephone number to the department Staff Assistant, in order for the department to reach them in the event of hospital need and/or emergency.
