Warehouse Worker – 2nd Shift

Job Description

This role focuses on safely and accurately handling metal materials in a open-bay warehouse environment. You will measure and cut metal, operate forklifts and other material handling equipment, pick and load orders, and support accurate inventory management. Comprehensive classroom and hands-on training is provided, including equipment certifications and recertifications.

Responsibilities

• Measure and cut metal accurately using a tape measure to meet order specifications.
• Select and pick orders using high reach, side loader, and sit-down forklifts after training and certification.
• Sort, band, and secure metal materials once picked to prepare them for staging or shipment.
• Load trucks with prepared materials and products in a safe and efficient manner.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, side loaders, and other material handling equipment, following all safety procedures.
• Operate overhead cranes as needed to move and position heavy materials safely.
• Utilize RF scanners for order picking, inventory tracking, and updating stock information.
• Perform cycle counts and assist with inventory management to ensure accurate stock levels.
• Maneuver metal materials throughout the warehouse, including staging, organizing, and replenishing product locations.
• Lift up to 55 pounds independently, using team lifting or forklifts for heavier items.
• Follow all safety protocols, procedures, and training to maintain a safe work environment.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the warehouse and surrounding areas, including workstations and equipment.
• Participate in initial classroom training on safety, core values, and basic certifications.
• Complete hands-on training focused on forklift certification and procedural duties.
• Undergo recertification on forklifts and overhead cranes, regardless of prior certifications, to maintain current qualifications.
• Support production and warehouse operations as needed, including general labor and machine operation related to material handling.

Essential Skills

• Ability to accurately measure materials using a tape measure.
• Capability to lift up to 55 pounds independently and perform frequent physical tasks in a warehouse environment.
• Willingness to operate forklifts, side loaders, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment after training.
• Comfort using RF scanners for order picking, inventory management, and cycle counts.
• Strong attention to safety procedures and ability to follow detailed safety protocols.
• Ability to maintain organization and cleanliness in a busy warehouse setting.
• Reliability and consistency in attendance to support shift-based warehouse operations.
• Ability to work 2nd shift (2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) and complete required training on 1st shift for at least three weeks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience with forklifts, including sit-down and high reach equipment, is a plus.
• Prior side loader forklift experience is a plus.
• Experience using RF scanners in a warehouse or production environment is a plus.
• Familiarity with overhead crane operation is a plus.
• Experience with production, machine operation, or metal handling (such as metal stamping) is an advantage.
• Comfort working with inventory management tasks such as cycle counts and stock organization.
• Willingness to complete 2–3 weeks of classroom training (safety, core values, basic certifications) and 3–4 weeks of hands-on training (forklift certification and procedural duties).

Work Environment

You work in a clean, open-bay warehouse that emphasizes safety, organization, and teamwork. The primary opening is on 2nd shift, running from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with initial training on 1st shift for at least three weeks. Additional shifts, including a 3rd shift schedule (10:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, typically 52–55 hours weekly), may be available as business needs increase, and overtime can become mandatory, including potential Saturdays. The role involves regular use of forklifts (sit-down and high reach), side loaders, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, RF scanners, and other standard warehouse equipment. The environment supports structured classroom training for safety and core values, followed by hands-on equipment and procedural training, including required recertifications on forklifts and overhead cranes. The dress code is typical for an industrial warehouse setting, with appropriate work attire and safety gear required to support a safe and efficient operation. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
