Counselor (EOC-NTP-8996) The Capital District Educational Opportunity Center is seeking an experienced, dynamic and caring Counselor to support adult learners in their academic journey. The Counselor will provide individualized and group counseling, monitor student progress and connect students with community resources. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Monitor student progress, following up on attendance problems, helping students cope with barriers that may prevent program completion, and addressing discontinuance from a program. Enforce policies and procedures outlined in the Student Handbook. Collaborate with faculty and administrators to offer effective services to students. Provide individual and group counseling to assigned students. Conduct orientation for new students, providing course schedules and Student Handbooks. Refer students to appropriate community services or programs for services unavailable at the EOC. Maintain records of student counseling sessions. Submit all reports in a timely manner. Provide support for other counselors’ students in the event of a counselor absence. Participate in weekly Counselor and Instructional Department meetings. Conduct ongoing academic counseling sessions with each student to determine their needs and goals. Maintain open communication with community agencies and resources. Establish and implement a professional development plan. Assist in developing and implementing center‑wide activities. Perform other related tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work or a related field. Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without restrictions. Completion of a reference and background check. Preferred Qualifications Experience in goal setting, educational and program support counseling with adults, preferably in a postsecondary setting. Demonstrated organizational skills. Ability to work with a diverse and multicultural population. Basic computer competency. Knowledge and familiarity of local community services. Benefits and Salary The salary for this position is $49,000.00 per year. The Center offers a full benefits package, including health, dental, and eye insurance, retirement plans, free tuition waivers for employees and their spouses and children, and a generous leave policy.
