Director of Operations

SCOPE The incumbent will have primary responsibility for overall operations of Production Promotions (i.e. Planning, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Facilities Management functions). The position is concerned with guidance and direction of the functional units, planning and administrative activities necessary to achieve company goals for budget and performance. This position assists the President in formulating and implementing long, medium and short-term business plans, corporate policy, goals and objectives. Customs Compliance: Directly and through subordinates, the incumbent maintains all import/export compliance, including documentation and classification policy and procedure. Quality Management System (QMS): Directly and through subordinates, the incumbent fully supports AAC’s QMS assuring ISO compliance and supports best in class products and services. EDUCATION A Bachelors or Masters degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering is desired. EXPERIENCE/ REQUIREMENTS Minimum of 15 years experience in capital equipment industry in a line management capacity. Minimum of 15 years of direct supervisory experience. Must have demonstrated in depth knowledge, ability and proficiency in developing and implementing short, medium, and long-range Production Promotion operating plans. Prior experience, or exposure in the development of metal stamping presses preferred. JOB FUNCTIONS Production Promotion Areas: Plans, develops and establishes policies, and objectives and action plans for the Production Promotion functions. Attends bi-monthly Sales Forecast meeting and develops Engineering and Manufacturing Capacity Loading submitted to ESC and AIDA Engineering Ltd. (AE). Responsible for insuring Production Promotion key processes are developed, implemented and are properly documented in the Company’s Quality Management System. Responsible for insuring Production functions operate in an efficient fashion to maintain internal schedules, satisfy customer delivery and acceptance requirements, and project costs are held within targets. Plans, develops and establishes capital and expense budgets for the Company and works with associates to manage spending within budgetary targets. Directly and working with subordinates, ensures that the facilities and machine tools are rigorously maintained to create a safe and productive work environment. Quality and General Management Areas: Provides leadership to bring about continuous improvements in cost, cycle time and improved quality. Ensures associates are empowered, motivated and rewarded for focusing on improving quality, reducing product cost and meeting or exceeding the expectations of internal and external customers. Determines the development needs of associates and provides timely and cost effective training and assignments to meet their needs. Uses the development process to identify outstanding performers to be considered for leadership assignments. Sets aggressive but obtainable goals for the team based on customer and company priorities to ensure customer satisfaction and company profitability. Provides timely and accurate feedback on team performance. Monitors and regularly reports on operating budget, company metrics and staffing plan. Adjusts plans as required to meet or exceed Production targets. Responsible for succession planning (i.e., selecting and training future leaders in Production functions). Provide leadership in the area of import/export transactions ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies. General knowledge of customs compliance. In depth knowledge of Safety Requirements for AAC Products (e.g., ANSI, NFPA, CSA, ESA) and AAC Manufacturing Plant Operations (e.g., OSHA, EPA). Performance Management of Direct Reports Maintain accurate job descriptions for all direct reports and review at least annually. Define and assess skills and set individual goals for all direct reports. Establish and execute training and development programs for all direct reports. Set performance metrics for all direct reports. Establish a process that tracks, measures and reports “on-time” performance of projects and assignments. Ensure that direct reports understand the definition of “good quality” as it relates to their work. Ensure that all direct reports know and abide by all AAC company policies and act in an ethical and professional manner, including the maintenance and protection of company assets. Quality Management System (QMS) Perform daily work in compliance with AAC’s QMS and actively participate in AAC’s objective to continuously improve AAC’s QMS. Work in a constructive manner to ensure department outputs satisfy downstream customers and work with upstream suppliers to solve problems. Use the Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA) system to identify and capture customer complaints, internal complaints, audit findings, and rework costs, as defined in the CAPA process flow and work instructions. Establish a system that provides regular feedback from downstream customers regarding the department’s performance. Reject poor quality from upstream suppliers. Provide regular feedback to upstream suppliers in order to minimize rejections. Refer to Managerial Skill Map (AAC-F-ADM-31-A) for relevant skill set requirements. Miscellaneous Understand and work to support achievement of corporate and departmental objectives. Know the AAC Corporate, Associate and Customer Vision and the AAC Quality Policy and conduct daily work in a manner that supports achievement of such. Work with supervisor to establish and meet individual training and development goals. Know and abide by all company policies. Act in an ethical and professional manner.
