Manager of Engineering

Job Summary Manager of Engineering – West Star Aviation, Addison, TX. Full-time, on-site. We are looking for a professional to support innovative aircraft projects by managing certification documents and engineering drawings across electrical, mechanical, and structural systems with expertise in at least one area. Key Responsibilities Manage preparation of certification documents and engineering drawings. Lead multiple projects independently, applying sound engineering judgment and integrity. Engage with customers, support Team Leaders and technicians, and drive program success. Supervise engineers, guide production teams with technical expertise. Provide modification drawings and guidance to the Avionics Installation Department. Assist Avionics/Maintenance departments in troubleshooting avionics/electrical issues. Provide modification drawings to Interior Department for cabin modifications. Provide modification/repair drawings for structural repairs. Document STC and field approvals, electrical load analysis, wire routing, installation guidelines. Troubleshoot avionics and support systems systematically. Assist installation and troubleshooting processes as needed, functioning within Technician role when required. Interpret drawings and specifications, produce and modify drawings. Maintain knowledge of avionics systems install, test, troubleshoot, remove, upgrade. Collaborate with others to produce innovative ideas and participate in decision‑making. Approve West Star drawings and Engineering Change Notices. Perform engineering analysis for assigned discipline. Provide technical supervision to Engineer I‑III and Senior Engineers. Maintain customer schedules and quality. Analyze data for Field Approvals and STC projects. Create and submit engineering drawings on CAD software. Create and submit engineering documents using word processing. Work independently on projects. Assist with FAA certification aspects. Monitor incoming engineering requests via the ERF. Communicate effectively in English. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 4‑year degree in Aviation or related field from an accredited college/university. Advanced knowledge of CAD. Experience performing data analysis and substantiation in primary engineering discipline. Experience writing engineering reports and/or technical papers. Experience in customer support, including technical support. Experience with FAA certification processes and paperwork. Valid driver’s license for airline travel or valid passport (ideal but not mandatory). Must understand and implement Federal Aviation Regulation guidelines. Must follow company and safety rules. Working knowledge of West Star Quality and Engineering policies. Ability to analyze new information and draw correct conclusions. Strong math and technical writing skills. Proficient in CAD, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Preferred Skills Experience in electrical, mechanical, or structural systems specialization. Knowledge of current advancements in avionics system development. Knowledge of FAA certification aspects and field approvals. Experience with project management tools such as Celoxis, Corridor, PDM, Microsoft 365. Physical and Working Conditions Lifts 50 lbs; routine walking, bending, squatting/sitting, repetitive arm motions. Climb ladders and stairs; work in small, restricted areas. Standing and sitting for long periods. Advanced computer operation; varied positions in and around aircraft, tight quarters. Occasional travel; work in office, heated maintenance/paint hangar, outdoor conditions.
