Building Management Systems Engineer

Control Systems / BMS Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL (or Richmond, VA)

Compensation: $125k–$130k Base | $145k–$170k OTE (15%–25% Annual Bonus)

We are seeking a Mid-Level Control Systems Engineer (3–7 years experience) to lead BMS design across high-profile, mission-critical portfolios—including Data Centers, Healthcare, Life Sciences, and High-Tech Facilities.

Why This Role?

• Predictable Lifestyle: Desk-based consulting schedule. Work Monday through Thursday in-office and enjoy a short remote Friday—start every weekend early.
• True Design Ownership: Write the BMS drawings, specifications, points lists, and sequences of operations (SOOs) from scratch rather than executing someone else's plan.
• 100% Bonus Track Record: Up to 25% annual performance bonus that has been paid out every single year, plus annual cost-of-living (COLA) adjustments.
• Clear PE Track: Active mentorship, training backing, and direct financial incentives to help you secure your PE license.
• Elite Portfolio: Join a legacy firm ranked #1 in data center and mission-critical engineering design.

Key Responsibilities

• Design complete Building Management System (BMS) architectures, DDC riser diagrams, and control panel layouts.
• Author detailed Sequences of Operation (SOO), points lists, valve/damper schedules, and MasterFormat specifications (Division 25/23).
• Coordinate controls design hand-in-hand with internal mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering teams.
• Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs during the construction phase.
• Design robust IP-based controls network architectures and open-protocol integrations (BACnet, Modbus).

What We're Looking For

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
• Certification: EIT / FE status preferred (or actively on track toward your PE).
• Experience: 3–7 years working with HVAC controls, building automation, and DDC systems.
• Design Mindset: Proficiency in reviewing/authoring mechanical drawings, specs, and control sequences (MEP consulting background highly valued over pure field/contractor execution).
