Overview Position: Adjunct Instructor - Nursing Department: Nursing/Health Professions Job Number: FY2606214 Division: VP Academic Affairs Posting status: Continuous recruitment; closing date: 8/7/2026 11:59 PM Mountain Overview / Summary Utah Valley University seeks a qualified adjunct instructor to join the Nursing program beginning in the Fall semester. The successful candidate must hold a master’s degree in nursing or a closely related field and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and clinical education. This position provides hands-on instruction and mentorship to nursing students in clinical, laboratory, or simulated settings. Prior teaching or clinical experience is preferred. The role may include supervising nursing students on 12-hour shifts at local hospitals (e.g., Monday night or Tuesday day shifts). Responsibilities Deliver high-quality instruction in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings while promoting student learning and professional development. Develop and implement approved nursing curricula, prepare instructional materials, evaluate student performance, and provide guidance to help students succeed academically and clinically. Maintain accurate records, ensure compliance with program and accreditation standards, and foster a safe, engaging learning environment. Supervise students in clinical and simulation experiences; support program objectives; maintain appropriate classroom and laboratory conditions; contribute to the overall success of the Nursing Program. Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and university needs. Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications Graduation from an accredited program with a master’s degree in nursing or a closely related field. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge Thorough knowledge of nursing principles, practices, procedures, and the subject matter for courses and clinical experiences. Knowledge of instructional strategies, adult learning principles, and evidence-based teaching techniques for classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings. Knowledge of student advising, mentoring, and counseling techniques to support academic achievement and professional development. Knowledge of current trends, best practices, technologies, and regulatory requirements in nursing education and healthcare delivery. Skills Skill in public speaking, presentation, and written communication, including the preparation of instructional materials, evaluations, and reports. Skill in student engagement, motivation, assessment, and performance evaluation in both academic and clinical environments. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Abilities Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and respectfully with students, faculty, healthcare partners, and staff. Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate nursing curriculum and clinical learning experiences that align with program outcomes. Ability to supervise and evaluate students in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings while ensuring patient safety and adherence to professional standards. Ability to maintain accurate student, clinical, and program records in accordance with university and accreditation requirements. Ability to foster a supportive and student-centered learning environment. Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, clinical partners, and department leadership to support program effectiveness and student success. Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs while promoting critical thinking, clinical judgment, and professional nursing competencies.
