Biomedical Data Manager

We are hiring a Biomedical Data Manager to support open science efforts across the Rare Disease team, enabling community-driven data initiatives such as the Neurofibromatosis Open Science Initiative. What you’ll do Data Standards and Plans: Applies metadata standards and contributes to improving data management plans across research projects. Data Management and Maintenance: Independently manages datasets and ensures appropriate metadata documentation and lifecycle management. Data Validation and Harmonization: Identifies and resolves inconsistencies to validate datasets and metadata and ensure research readiness. Data Operations: Applies tools and automation techniques, including AI, to improve efficiency of data management tasks such as metadata extraction, validation, and documentation. Collaboration and Coordination: Coordinates with engineering, governance, and scientific teams to implement consistent data standards across projects. Community and Support: Provides guidance on data-sharing tools, standards, and best practices for contributors. How you’ll do it Collaborative approach: Work closely with scientists, engineers, and governance teams to align data management practices with research needs and technical infrastructure. Standards-driven practices: Apply FAIR data principles, metadata standards, and governance frameworks to ensure datasets are well-structured, documented, and reusable. Operational efficiency: Use automation, lightweight tooling, and emerging technologies (including AI) to streamline data curation, validation, and documentation workflows. Contributor enablement: Support researchers and contributors through clear documentation, onboarding, and guidance on data submission and sharing processes. Responsible data stewardship: Ensure biomedical data sharing follows appropriate legal, ethical, and governance requirements while maximizing scientific usability. Who You Are The Essentials (Required) Education & Experience: 2+ years in biomedical data management/biocuration with a Bachelor’s degree in biomedical research, health informatics, health information management, library science, genomics, neuroscience, or related discipline. Familiarity with biomedical data management/biocuration and an advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in related field. Technical Baseline: Experience with complex multi-omic data (e.g., transcriptomics, WGS, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenetics, clinical/phenotypic data). Experience on multidisciplinary teams. Experience with biomedical data models, metadata harmonization, and ontology development or refinement. Experience using project tracking tools such as Jira. Familiarity with multiple disease domains (e.g., rare disease, neurodegenerative disease, cancer, immunology). Proficiency in data management tools and techniques. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated critical thinking and inclusive technical practices. Curiosity about AI tools to support data management and analysis. Familiarity with using code to manage data and use of version control systems. Other preferred Skills Familiarity with AWS or other cloud-based resources. Experience presenting work to scientific audiences. Compensation & Benefits Job Level: Professional Annual Salary Range: $93,300-121,700 Notes: New hires typically receive an offer between the minimum and the midpoint of the range. Higher offers may be considered for exceptional experience or specific market conditions.
