Maintenance Technician

This role focuses on maintaining and repairing equipment in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment, with an emphasis on electrical work supported by strong mechanical skills. You will perform troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs on complex machinery to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation across the facility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment, focusing on a 70/30 ratio of electrical to mechanical work.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues on production equipment, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical components such as gearboxes, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, and large blanking presses.
  • Fabricate parts and structures as needed to support equipment repairs and modifications, ensuring proper fit and function.
  • Rig and safely move heavy equipment and components during installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on machinery and systems to reduce unplanned outages and extend equipment life.
  • Work with PLC-based systems to support troubleshooting efforts; utilize knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC-5 platforms when applicable.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance technicians and production staff to prioritize tasks and complete work efficiently.
  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working on electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and findings to support continuous improvement and equipment reliability.

Essential Skills

  • Proven maintenance experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong electrical skill set with an emphasis on troubleshooting production equipment.
  • Mechanical proficiency working with gearboxes, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, and large blanking presses.
  • Ability to fabricate components and perform basic metalwork to support repairs and modifications.
  • Experience with rigging and safely handling heavy equipment and components.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills across both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial machinery.
  • Ability to work effectively on a 70/30 electrical to mechanical workload.
  • Willingness and ability to work the required shift schedule, including extended hours.
  • Strong technical aptitude suitable for working as a mechanical or multicraft technician.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • PLC troubleshooting experience, particularly with Allen Bradley PLC-5 systems, is a plus but not required.
  • Experience working on large presses or similar heavy industrial equipment is highly beneficial.
  • Capability to function as either a primarily mechanical technician or a multicraft technician, depending on team needs.
  • Comfort working in a structured maintenance environment with defined schedules and procedures.

Work Environment

This position operates on 2nd shift, working Wednesday through Saturday from 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 a.m., structured as four 12-hour days for a total of 48 hours per week. New hires will train on 1st shift for approximately 34 weeks, with a schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., to become familiar with the equipment and processes. The work takes place in a manufacturing or heavy industrial facility with large blanking presses, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and other heavy machinery. The environment involves hands-on work around production equipment, requiring adherence to safety procedures and appropriate industrial attire. Personal tools are not required, as the facility provides the necessary tools and equipment to perform maintenance tasks.
