Underwriter III

Position Summary The Underwriter III reviews and underwrites large books of business, diverse accounts, and evaluates complex risk scenarios or situations. This is a 100% in‑office position requiring on‑site presence at a designated company office during standard business hours. Essential Responsibilities Participate in rate‑making meetings, frequently bringing region‑specific items that are noteworthy to the group for vetting. Evaluate and assess each component of a book of business and understand the impact each risk has. Evaluate requests for appeals and departmental audits. Present presentations/webinars for other underwriters, marketing, and agency groups. Coordinate with the Manager, marketing, field staff, or appropriate liaison if previous attempts to correct agent performance have gone unaddressed or have not been received well by the agent. Educate, coach, and train agents on underwriting procedures, philosophy, and new products. Provide support for the agents and field management as an educator and coach regarding how to develop a profitable book of business. Assist agents and field management on changes in guidelines and processes via teleconferences and webinars, as well as in‑person presentations. Lead and coordinate smaller independent projects outside of normal job duties, frequently working with others in and outside the department and being able to accomplish independently. Qualifications and Experience Four or more years of P&C Commercial Underwriting experience. Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required. Farming or Commercial industry knowledge. AALU, AU, AINS certification. Salary Base salary range: $64,000 – $84,000, based on experience and geographic location.
