Associate Pastor – Shelby Bible Church Location: Shelby Township, Michigan Employment Type: Full-Time Compensation: TBD + benefits (health insurance & retirement) About Us We are a nondenominational, elder‑led congregation located in Shelby Township, Michigan, committed to expository preaching, biblical discipleship, and gospel‑centered community. Over the past five years, God has grown our church from approximately 250 to 500 in Sunday attendance, and we are building out our pastoral team to steward that growth well. Role Overview The Associate Pastor will serve alongside the Senior Pastor to provide leadership, care, and organizational oversight across our church's ministries. This person will function primarily as a leader of leaders—equipping, developing, and holding accountable the volunteer leaders who serve in each area of ministry. He will champion our discipleship vision, oversee our age‑graded ministry programs, and ensure that our small group ministry continues to grow in depth and health. Primary Responsibilities Ministry Oversight Provide pastoral oversight of all age‑graded ministries, from nursery through senior adults, ensuring each has strong, qualified volunteer leadership in place. Serve as the primary point of contact for ministry leaders across children's ministry (including Awana and Sunday morning programming), youth support, and senior adult ministry. Conduct regular check‑ins with ministry leaders to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with the church's vision. Identify gaps in leadership and recruit, develop, and deploy volunteers accordingly. Discipleship & Small Groups Take ownership of the church's discipleship program and develop it in both breadth and depth. Oversee and invest in small group ministry, caring for small group leaders and helping them grow as shepherds of their groups. Work with the Senior Pastor to cast and implement a clear discipleship pathway for the congregation. Staff & Leadership Development Participate in staff meetings and contribute to the development of a healthy, growing team culture. Support the Senior Pastor in elder and deacon meeting preparation, where applicable. Mentor and develop emerging leaders within the congregation. Pastoral Care Assist the Senior Pastor in visitation, hospital calls, and congregational care as needed. Be present and available to the congregation as a shepherd, not merely an administrator. Qualifications Meets the biblical qualifications for elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. In full agreement with the Shelby Bible Church doctrinal statement. Agrees to serve within the polity of Shelby and is comfortable serving within an elder‑led church governance structure. Proven ability to lead, develop, and hold accountable volunteer leaders. Strong organizational and administrative skills—able to manage multiple ministry areas simultaneously. A shepherd's heart with genuine love for people across all life stages. Experience in discipleship ministry and/or small group leadership preferred. Formal theological training preferred (seminary degree or equivalent). Reporting Structure Reports directly to the Senior Pastor. Works collaboratively with church elders, deacons, and ministry staff.
