Performs liaison duties with associated court personnel and system stakeholders to facilitate alternatives to detention, court hearings, professional assessment, intake and case planning. Assists the Corrections Coordinator as lead for supervision officers providing case management to juvenile clients with Juvenile Field Services (JFS) & Home Based Services (HBS). Advocates for and expedites the release of eligible youth from secure detention, the Juvenile Residential Facility (JRF) and facilitates alternative to detention placement.

Liaison Duties

• At court hearings, presents information in an intentionally collaborative manner and offers appropriate recommendations to Judges, District Attorney and defense attorney consistent with the department’s mission and goals.
• Facilitates alternative to detention placements; coordinates and updates stakeholders regarding notification of new complaints, warrant information and court results.
• Completes sexual offender registration process following adjudication.
• Ensures Home Based Services meets judicial expectations.
• Conducts daily population reviews; participates in weekly population meetings.

Lead Staff

• Under the direction of a supervisor may train, guide, and give work instructions to ISOs; may review and audit client files and other information to assist in evaluating employee performance.
• May temporarily assume supervisory duties in the absence of the Corrections Coordinator.
• Completes an accurate and thorough assessment on each assigned client when requested.
• Reviews and ensures accurate detention intake paperwork; facilitates communication with stakeholders regarding court process and follow up.
• Completes paperwork and documentation of client information in required record management systems.
• Conducts drug/alcohol screenings on clients through urinalysis and/or breathalyzer testing.
• Performs pat down searches and screening with metal detectors to prevent weapons from entering the workplace.
• Performs searches of client homes and vehicles.
• Conducts and facilitates behavioral cognitive groups as assigned.
• Assists law enforcement officers serving arrest warrants.
• Serves 24-hour on-call duty for one-week period on rotating basis.

Client Intake

• Facilitates alternative to detention placements, completes an accurate and thorough intake on each authorized client and develops an effective written case plan that targets criminogenic needs.
• Assists in case management duties in overseeing terms and conditions of client’s release from detention and individual case plan; assists with office and field visits.
• Incorporates evidence-based practices to include motivational interviewing and cognitive skills in work with clients.

Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience in corrections or human services organizations working with youth and families. Professional references documenting the years of related work experience are required. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or a related field. Transcript verifying education credits is required. Must be at least 21 years of age. Per Sedgwick County Policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance. Personal passenger vehicle for use (mileage reimbursement is provided by County). Pass legal background check, Child and Adult Abuse & Neglect Central Registry checks, KCJIS Security Policy (fingerprint) check, and pre-employment screens. Must also meet the required conditions contained in KSA 65-516 and KAR 28-4-356(d), (1-5).
