Software Engineer 4 – Ads Policy Infrastructure at Netflix, Los Gatos

Netflix is hiring a Software Engineer 4 for its Ads Policy Infrastructure team in Los Gatos, California . This full-time role offers engineers the chance to build the systems that enforce policy at the scale of Netflix's advertising business — where platform decisions reach hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

Who You Are

As a senior software engineer on the Ads Policy Infrastructure team, you will design and operate the systems that govern policy enforcement across Netflix's growing advertising ecosystem. The role sits at the intersection of distributed infrastructure engineering and product policy, demanding both technical depth and an understanding of how platform rules impact the viewer experience.

Candidates typically bring several years of experience shipping production-grade infrastructure, strong systems-thinking abilities, and comfort operating in environments with evolving requirements. The ideal engineer balances architectural rigor with the pragmatism needed to deliver reliable features in a fast-moving organization.

What You'll Do

• Architect and implement robust, scalable policy enforcement systems that support Netflix's advertising business.
• Collaborate with product, legal, and policy teams to translate business requirements into dependable technical solutions.
• Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to the operational health of critical infrastructure services.
• Mentor junior engineers and help raise the standard for engineering excellence across the team.
• Drive design reviews, contribute to coding standards, and advocate for best practices in system reliability.

Compensation & Benefits

The published market range for this role is $250,000 to $413,000 annually. Netflix uses a transparent compensation model: each year you choose how much of your total compensation you receive as salary versus stock options, based on your background, skills, and the market range for your job family.

Comprehensive benefits include health plans, mental health support, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, a stock option program, disability programs, health savings and flexible spending accounts, family-forming benefits, and life and serious injury benefits. Full-time salaried employees are immediately entitled to flexible time off, while full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for vacation, holidays, and sick time.

Application Process

The interview process for this senior engineering position emphasizes system design and behavioral questions. Netflix's engineering culture — articulated in its widely shared Culture Memo — prioritizes context over control, and hiring panels look for evidence that you can operate autonomously while being deeply collaborative.

When preparing your application, highlight projects where you have owned end-to-end system design, especially those involving distributed services, policy engines, or high-throughput data pipelines. Experience in entertainment or media technology is a differentiator; understanding the regulatory and product constraints unique to streaming platforms is valued by this team.

Netflix is an equal-opportunity employer and celebrates diversity, recognizing that diverse teams build stronger products. The company does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
