DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST IV Opening Date: July 27, 2026 Closing Date: End of the day August 07, 2026 Location: Augusta Position Number: 08330-1679 Position Type: Full Time/Year-Round Class Code: 9254 Grade: 26 (Supervisory) Salary: $61,214.40 - $86,590.40 Per Year* *(This includes a 2.5% Salary Adjustment). This is earning potential over the course of nine steps; new hires start at step one. Annual step increases are based on performance reviews and authorization of such increases.

This position oversees the compliance program, including compliance inspections, emissions testing program activities, complaint investigation and resolution activities, evaluation of compliance status, and providing assistance in development of enforcement cases for the Bureau of Air Quality. This position also manages and provides outreach to the public and the regulated community, provides compliance assistance, develops and reviews reports based on inspections conducted, and tracks compliance activities in support of Bureau of Air Quality and Department goals and commitments. This position maintains records of compliance related activities within EPA's Integrated Compliance Information System (ICIS) database. - Producing oral and written communications of technical and legal information to inform and educate a wide variety of audiences, including members of the public, the regulated community, and Department staff.
- Working knowledge and understanding of state and federal air quality related laws and regulations.
- Working knowledge of air pollution control technology and operation.
- Work-Life Balance - Rest is essential. Take time for yourself using 13 paid holidays , 12 days of sick leave , and 3+ weeks of vacation leave annually. Vacation leave accrual increases with years of service, and overtime-exempt employees receive personal leave.
- Health Insurance Coverage - The State of Maine pays 85%-100% of employee-only premiums ($11,857.68-$13,950.24 annual value), depending on salary. Use this chart to find the premium costs for you and your family, including the percentage of dependent coverage paid by the State.

- Retirement Plan - The State of Maine contributes 14.11% of pay to the Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS), on behalf of the employee.
