Athletic Trainer/Professional Educator 26-27 SY ($3,000 Sign-On Bonus) Teacher Pay Scale + Stipend Job Description Plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of the athletic training program for student athletes, working under the direction of the team physician to provide prevention, evaluation, emergency treatment, reconditioning, and rehabilitation. Responsibilities Plan and implement a comprehensive injury and illness prevention program. Attend practice sessions and athletic contests as assigned. Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical personnel, coaches, and staff. Provide physical conditioning training. Fit injured athletes with specialized equipment and oversee its use. Prepare athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluations and applying tape, wraps, splints, braces, and other protective devices. Respond to emergencies and make independent judgments regarding treatment. Provide first-aid triage and decide on further medical attention or discontinuation of participation. Establish emergency procedures for coaches or student trainers. Detect and resolve environmental risks to athletes. Plan and implement a rehabilitation and reconditioning program for injuries and illnesses. Determine therapeutic goals and objectives for individual athletes. Apply therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on proper use of equipment. Evaluate and record rehabilitation progress; develop criteria for progression and return to practice and competition. Follow professional, ethical, and legal parameters regarding drug and therapeutic agent use. Coordinate scheduling of athletic physical examinations and screenings. Select, train, and supervise student assistants. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and documents. Maintain an inventory of training supplies and equipment; requisition additional supplies as needed. Perform additional duties assigned by supervisor for district betterment. Qualifications Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree. Valid license from the Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers. Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to provide injury prevention and rehabilitation services. Ability to provide emergency care. Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and ability to apply appropriate treatment. Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes and assistants.
