Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (Night Shift)

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform nursing care procedures for patients of all ages, including those with multisystem disease and complex treatment needs, using appropriate infection control measures and evidence-based practice
• Conduct thorough nursing assessments through interviewing, observation, and the nursing process; document findings including review of body systems, laboratory results, and diagnostic data
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and the broader healthcare team; provide discharge instructions and after-care planning
• Accurately administer age-specific medications and therapeutics; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and intervene promptly in emergency situations, including implementation of life-saving procedures
• Provide patient and family education regarding tests, procedures, disease processes, and coping strategies; document education accurately and completely
• Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and healthcare team members; assist in orienting new staff and travelers, and serve as Contact RN leading assigned RNs and CNAs as needed

Required Qualifications

• Valid, current, full, and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska (required upon hire)
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required upon hire; ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of hire
• Current flu vaccination required
• Two fingerprint cards must be submitted immediately upon acceptance
• Competency in recognizing emergently ill patients and responding promptly in emergency situations
• Knowledge of nursing care principles, pharmaceutical effects and complications, and operation of basic and specialty medical equipment

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Minimum of one year of clinical nursing experience
• Prior experience in an Emergency Department or relevant specialty area
• TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications
