Job Summary Sign on bonus: Up to $10,000 (Bonus based on eligibility) Position Summary A licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner is responsible for the performance of diagnostic testing, administration of prescribed respiratory therapy procedures, medications, and related life support measures to patients with deficiencies, abnormalities, and diseases of the cardiopulmonary system. The Practitioner assesses patient condition, reviews medical history, documents progress, and collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to maintain the plan of care. Responsibilities Level 1 – Minimal Competencies Perform diagnostic testing and the administration of prescribed respiratory therapy. Perform SVN Therapy and MDI Therapy on intubated and non‑intubated patients. Perform incentive spirometry and documentation per facility guidelines. Perform chest physiotherapy – by manual or mechanical means. Perform sputum induction and appropriate documentation. Perform arterial puncture and arterial line draws. Perform arterial blood gas and co‑oximetry analysis per facility, including critical value result notification. Perform bedside pulmonary function screening pre‑ and post‑bronchodilator; review data and document appropriately. Administer routinely prescribed inhaled medications and substitutions. Clarify pharmacy orders. Complete medication administration (MAR sign‑off per facility). Initiate and maintain non‑invasive ventilation per physician order with documentation. Initiate and maintain mechanical ventilation per physician orders with documentation. Initiate and maintain transport ventilators with documentation. Perform daily maintenance and quality assurance measures as per facility specifications. Maintain, stock, and clean all respiratory care supplies, equipment, and storage areas. Perform nasal/oral tracheal suction; use, operate, and maintain closed suction systems. Understand medical gas systems and zone valve locations. Follow infection control standards for patient care and equipment processing. Adhere to established bundle protocols (VAP, pressure ulcers, universal protocols, etc.). Perform weaning parameters and ventilator management (VC, NIF, Vt/f Vt) with documentation. Know code cart locations, supplies, and defibrillator use/operation. Provide appropriate oxygen and continuous aerosol therapy per facility. Respond to emergency situations, code arrests, rapid response calls; document appropriately. Provide rescue breathing via bag/mask/valve or pocket mask. Label and store medications correctly. Assist with other assigned or daily departmental responsibilities. Understand the Incident Command System (HEICS). Clean, set up, and safety‑check ventilators and BiPAP/CPAP units and other equipment as indicated. Complete all necessary department paperwork (badger exception log, daily assignment log, work schedules, therapist worksheets). Level 2 – Advanced Competencies Coordinate departmental paperwork (badger exception log, Kronos reports, daily assignment log, work schedule, therapist worksheets). Participate in performance assessment and improvement processes. Maintain blood gas & co‑ox log; oversee completion of blood gas, co‑oximetry, and PFT screening reports. Understand medical gas systems, zone valve locations, and perform back‑feeding procedures when indicated. Train and act as a resource for respiratory department staff. Recognize problems and suggest corrective strategies for clinical service compromise. Assist with bronchoscopies per facility guidelines, including cleaning and documentation. Serve as Charge Therapist when appropriate. Contribute to enhancement of programs and services. Perform airway management skills per competency validation process. Perform arterial line placement, evaluation, and monitoring per competency validation process. Perform venous line or other peripherally inserted lines per competency validation process. Perform other airway management procedures and duties within scope of practice and licensure requirements. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: Education: Associate of Science in Respiratory Therapy RCP associates hired prior to 03/01/11 are grandfathered; Associates Degree not required. Experience: Clinical experience in adult, pediatric, and infant general med‑surg and critical care therapeutics and diagnostics. Skills: Basic computer skills Verbal and written communication skills Proficiency in all phases of basic and advanced respiratory care practices (invasive and non‑invasive) Knowledge of Respiratory Care Practice Act and scientific process in Respiratory Care Practice Proficient use of technology related to therapeutics and diagnostics (ventilators, monitors, gas analyzers, co‑oximeters, pulmonary function screeners) Ability to work flexible schedules, including holidays and weekends. Licensure/Certifications: Respiratory Care Practitioner for Arizona certificates Registered Respiratory Therapist or registry‑eligible BLS CHVI specifics: PALS, ACLS within 6 months of hire and every two years Preferred Requirements: Bachelor of Science in a related field.
