Teaching Lab Technician

Teaching Lab Technician The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology is looking for a Teaching Lab Tech for our upper-level undergraduate teaching labs. This tech will work with a current team of other techs in a dynamic group supporting numerous students per semester. This position requires successful teamwork and an excitement for an academic environment. Student support is essential! Responsibilities Prepare chemicals, lab equipment, and student drawers for teaching lab. Maintain laboratory facilities and stockroom for experiments. Perform minor maintenance of upper‑level lab course instrumentation, such as, but not limited to, GC‑MS, FT‑IR, and HPLC. Maintain a web server for student data submission. Grade student data submissions. Plan laboratory exercises with faculty. Test and conduct experiments, exercises, and demonstrations. Provide technical assistance to staff and teaching assistants concerning experimental preparations and procedures. Ensure compliance with health and safety standards of laboratory operations. Schedule The working schedule is variable, dependent on the lab courses scheduled, and can be negotiated with the position supervisor. Weekends are not anticipated; evening hours may be required, and overtime may be required periodically. Conditions of Employment Successful candidate must submit to a post‑offer, pre‑employment physical examination and medical history check. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or Bio‑Chem preferred. Experience working in and providing technical support for an undergraduate teaching lab. Experience preparing chemical solutions and setting up experiments for undergraduate teaching labs. Experience managing undergraduate teaching lab facility. Experience working in a team environment. Compensation Hourly: $18.09 – $23.27, depending on experience and education. Location Main – Albuquerque, NM Benefits This is a benefits eligible position.
