Assistant/Associate Project Scientist - EPI-CAL

Position Overview The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California Davis, School of Medicine is recruiting a full‑time Project Scientist (Assistant or Associate rank) for the Statewide Early Psychosis Implementation Research and Evaluation for California (EPI‑CAL) program. The Project Scientist will make significant and creative contributions to a research or creative project in early psychosis implementation research, and will focus on data analysis, training, and technical assistance in culturally diverse contexts. Major Responsibilities Research & Evaluation (63% effort) Research and evaluation activity (43%) : Design and implement research projects, analyze large qualitative and quantitative datasets (state‑level census, Medi‑Cal cost data, qualitative interviews, training evaluation data, survey data), develop models, code, summarize findings, and disseminate results via manuscripts, conferences, and presentations. Publication and Presentation (10%) : Present at conferences and publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals, independently or with the PI or other team members. Grant Acquisition (10%) : Assist in writing proposals for federal, state, and private funding, prepare budgets and reports, and manage grant modifications. Training and Technical Assistance (30% effort) : Support data analysis and technical skills development among junior staff; oversee students or technicians in methods development; develop evidence‑based training for clinical and support personnel related to early psychosis. Professional Competence and Activity (5% effort) : Participate in professional societies, review research proposals and publications, attend seminars, and provide or coordinate presentations. University and Public Service (2% effort) : Engage in relevant SOM or campus organizations as appropriate. Basic Qualifications Ph.D. or equivalent in Psychology, Social Work, or a related discipline. Minimum 4 years of academic research experience post‑terminal degree. Experience with large‑scale dataset evaluation and research involving marginalized populations with psychosis. Evidence of academic accomplishment (peer‑reviewed journal papers, conference presentations). Specific expertise: Cultural, linguistic, and religious identity in mental health among marginalized populations. Mental health literacy, stigma, and access to services. Modeling cost and utilization of health services in large datasets. Qualitative data collection, coding, and analysis (focus groups, interviews, software such as Nivivo). Additional Qualifications Demonstrated statistical analysis skills. Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a large research team. Strong organizational skills.
