Reports to: Family Preservation Manager

Position summary: The Family Skills Coach supports children and families by providing practical skill-building, education, and resource coordination to promote family stability, strengthen protective factors, and support reunification or preservation of the family unit. As an integral member of the treatment team, this role delivers hands-on instruction in areas such as parenting, recovery support, and daily living skills while collaborating on service planning and progress toward case goals. The Family Skills Coach also maintains consistent communication with referral partners, connects families to community resources, and ensures accurate documentation, all while contributing to a coordinated, strengths-based approach to care. 

Qualifications:

• A Christian with strong convictions who is also in agreement with Josiah White’s mission statement, Statement of Faith, and Code of Conduct. 

• Must be 21 years of age or older.

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

• Must have a valid driver’s license with no restrictions limiting the ability to perform job functions and proof of vehicle insurance.

Essential job functions:

• Provide Skills Training: Deliver individualized instruction to families in parenting, budgeting, recovery support, household management, conflict resolution, and other essential life skills.

• Support Treatment Planning: Collaborate with the treatment team to assess needs and contribute to the development and implementation of service plans.

• Maintain Case Documentation and Reporting: Complete timely, accurate case records including progress notes, reports, safety plans, and service documentation.

• Coordinate Resources: Connect families to community services and supports, including assisting with transportation or facilitating access to needed resources.

• Mentor and Support Families: Teach and model skills, and provide ongoing guidance in areas such as conflict resolution, child development, and building healthy family dynamics.

• Foster External Relationships: Communicate regularly with placing agencies and serve as a liaison to support collaboration and continuity of care.

• Engage in Professional Development: Participate in clinical supervision, field observations, training, and performance feedback processes to enhance service delivery and effectiveness. 

Work Schedule: This position requires, on average, 40 hours per week. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm. Hours may extend outside of normal work hours based on client needs and schedules. When this occurs, hours may be flexed throughout the week to allow for greater work/life balance. Depending on the project cycles and workflow demands, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be required. This position will require participation in an on-call rotation.

Physical Demands & Work Environment: The employee in this role will work in an office setting, client homes and/or community settings as appropriate for service delivery. This role involves visiting diverse neighborhoods and cultural settings. Frequent local day-time travel is required to meet with families, attend appointments, and coordinate services. This position often requires the use of a personal vehicle for agency business, with mileage reimbursed in accordance with company policy. The employee must be able to drive long distances independently and sit for extended periods; manage steps/stairs to enter client homes; stand, walk, and move within homes; bend, kneel, or crouch to engage with children or complete activities; lift and carry materials up to 20-30 pounds; appropriately respond to complex family dynamics, emotionally charged situations, safety concerns, and crisis situations; perform frequent typing; and successfully complete Mindset, our crisis and de-escalation training and CPR/First Aid, which requires the ability to get on the floor, on knees and back up.
