The Chemical Operator is responsible for setting up and completing chemical transfers, packaging, blends, and reaction operations per established procedures and guidelines. This position controls and adjusts equipment, handles material movement, and ensures production activities are completed accurately, safely, and in a timely manner. The role includes monitoring process conditions, performing quality control checks, handling hazardous materials in accordance with SDS information, and maintaining proper documentation. The Chemical Operator also provides operational feedback and performs basic troubleshooting on production equipment. What You'll Do Packaging Operations
- Fill containers (drums, totes, bulk vessels) with liquid products according to specifications.
- Apply labels and placards and verify work orders and lot numbers.
- Ensure packaging follows quality and operational guidelines.
- Load and unload material containers including tank trucks, railcars, totes, and drums.
- Manage transfer lines, hose connections, and valve configurations.
- Operate forklifts and other equipment to transport, weigh, arrange, and store materials.
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, and verification of materials, including review of documentation (e.g., batch tickets, BOL, COA).
- Process chemical transfers, packaging, blends, and reaction using established procedures and batch instructions.
- Monitor temperature, pressure, and other process variables using appropriate instruments.
- Ensure proper equipment setup, line-ups, and operation without internal or external leaks.
- Clean and prepare equipment for subsequent production or maintenance activities.
- Control and adjust equipment settings (valves, pumps, gauges, meters) to maintain specified conditions.
- Draw samples of products at specified stages so that analyses can be performed
- Perform basic laboratory tests, including viscosity, Karl Fisher, pH, TAV, alkalinity, and others as requested.
- Observe all company & safety policies and procedures. Participate in plant safety processes and immediately report any unsafe conditions.
- Maintain familiarity with safe handling, environmental regulations, and emergency response for all materials in your area.
- Perform routine plant observations to report and correct, if possible, any abnormal situations.
- Remain current on the requirements of the QMS and ensure that your actions support the Sharp quality policy towards continual improvement.
- Track and record process information and production data.
- Monitor scales, recording instruments, meters, or products to maintain specified conditions.
- Complete and maintain all required training and certification with a score of 80 or above.
- Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness of work areas to ensure a safe environment.
- Support continuous improvement and quality management systems (QMS).
- Complete required training and maintain certifications.
- High school diploma / GED required.
- Experience in documented and practical, chemical manufacturing & production, material handling, warehouse, is required.
- Knowledge of industry standards and practices.
- Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships.
- Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Visual: The work requires visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.
- Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
- Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
- Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound.
- Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position.
- Repetitive Motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
- The worker is subject to extreme heat: Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
- The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
- The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
- The worker is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
- The worker is exposed to infectious diseases.
