Intellectual Property Manager

Stryker seeks an Intellectual Property Manager to oversee patent lifecycle management for its Medical Division, including invention intake, patentability assessments, and portfolio strategy. The role supports R&D teams across product development phases and coordinates IP risk assessments for new launches and acquisitions.
Responsibilities
- Manage full patent lifecycle including invention intake, patentability assessments, application development, and maintenance decisions
- Lead invention review boards and guide patent filing decisions in partnership with R&D stakeholders and IP counsel
- Develop patent portfolio strategies, conduct freedom-to-operate analyses, and manage IP budgets aligned with business priorities
- Coordinate with external counsel on U.S. and international patent application preparation, filing, and prosecution
- Improve IP processes, systems, and portfolio metrics to enhance efficiency and provide actionable leadership insights
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
- Minimum 8 years professional experience in engineering, IP, or patent management with demonstrated portfolio oversight
- Proven experience with invention disclosures, patentability assessments, patent searches, and competitive landscape analysis
- Experience collaborating with R&D, engineering teams, and external patent counsel on invention evaluation and IP matters
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent IP matters and technology development projects simultaneously
- 3+ years medical device, MedTech, or regulated product development industry experience (preferred)
- USPTO Patent Agent or Patent Attorney registration (preferred)
Compensation: $118,000–$196,700 USD annual (range by pay band; see location-specific transparency guide)
