PENICK VILLAGE Job Description CNA- Certified Nursing Assistant Reports to: Director of Nursing & Healthcare Administrator Department: Nursing/RAL/GC Status: Full Time/Part Time/PRN- Hourly Primary Responsibility: The CNA must be a compassionate and professional individual willing to carry out Penick Villages vision and goals of delivering the highest level of care to those we serve. As a CNA, you must have strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with residents, families, physicians, community resources and visitors. The primary role of the CNA is to protect, sustain, and nurture our residents by providing assistance with activities of daily living, and meeting other needs as required. The core goal will be to provide excellent assistance, which promotes a high quality of life. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Recognize and respond to the needs of residentsProvide and maintain a clean and safe home for residents.Assisting with personal care functions, including:Dental and mouth careBathingDressing and groomingHair careNail careShavingBowel and bladder careOther personal and hygiene careObserve and report the presence of pressure areas to prevent decubitis and provide skin care according to policy.Make occupied and unoccupied beds and change bed linens.Assist moving, positioning and transporting elders into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, lifts, etc.Assure that call bell is accessible to elder at all times and answered promptly.Record all entries on flow sheets, notes, charts, etc. in an informative and descriptive manner.Use only authorized abbreviations established by this facility when recording information.Report all changes in the residents condition to the Charge Nurse as soon as possible.Report all accidents and incidents you observe on the shift that they occur.Inform supervisor of any changes in the residents condition so that appropriate information can be entered into the residents care plan.Ensure that your notes/documentation reflect that the care plan is being followed.Communicate with co-workers at all levels to meet the needs of residents.Measure and record vital signs, such as temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height, anatomical dimension/circumference, etc. as necessary.Report any resident abuse or suspected abuse to the Healthcare Administrator or designee immediately.Follow established safety precautions and observe, monitor and intervene or report to the Healthcare Administrator or designee, unsafe conditions in Penick Village.Follow established smoking regulations and report violations.Maintain confidentiality and privacy of resident care, procedures, and documentation.Serve and clean up after meals and snacks.Launder clothing, linen and other articles.Clean and maintain the environment in partnership with housekeeping to include daily trash collection, removal of food and other items, and light housekeeping.Keep all areas of the Penick Village clean.Attend meetings and in-service training as scheduled.Assist family members in a friendly and courteous manner when they inquire about the matters of the Elder and/or direct them to appropriate staff that can assist them.Perform other related duties as required by the resident. Job Requirements: Excellent communication skillsCandidates must be able to work in a collaborative and shared leadership environment.Must possess and demonstrate a personal presence by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Penick Village.Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.Must display professionalism both in appearance and in attitude.Must possess the ability to solve problems and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agency personnel and the public.Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult personnel.Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.Must be able to relate information concerning a residents condition.Must be able to communicate strongly and effectively.Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace. Education: High school graduate or GED.Required to have completed a CNA course and satisfactorily completed a competency assessment, approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.Listed on the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry in good standing.Must maintain re-certification credentials as a CNA. Resident Rights Responsibilities and HIPAA: Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.Knock before entering a residents room.Ensure that the residents rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage complaints, are well established and maintained at all times.Review resident complaints and grievances and make written reports of action taken to the DON. Discuss with resident and family as appropriate and in a timely manner.Maintain the confidentiality, privacy and security of all residents Protected Health Information (PHI). Sharing protected information about a resident is a violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).Preserve the confidentiality and security of health information as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), whether on paper, electronically, verbally or any other format.Keep confidential information of any kind concerning matters relating to my work or services for Penick Village, including confidential resident information that is not protected by HIPAA.Will immediately report any known or suspected violation of the privacy or security of Private Health Information to the Penick Village Privacy Officer.Understand that, to the fullest extent possible, I will be limited to only the resident information necessary to execute my specific job duties. Expectation for Compliance in Job Performance: Compliance is part of the job and is a condition of employment.Adherence to the Code of Conduct is part of the Performance Assessment.Annual Compliance Education is mandatory.The Code of Conduct Attestation must be signed at hire and annually. Attendance and Punctuality: May be pulled to work in other Healthcare areas.Gives proper notice when late or absent.Normally a 36-hour work week that includes weekends and Holidays.Occasional overtime for schedule coverage and special events.May be required to work every other holiday (Example: 2023 work Christmas Day- off Christmas Eve; 2024 off Christmas Day- work Christmas Eve) Full Time: Must work at least 32 hours per week, includes weekend. Work is not on a temporary basis. Part Time: Less than 30 hours per week, includes weekends. May work regular or irregular schedules, including partial days and/or weeks. PRN: Must work (2) 12-hour shifts per 4 week schedule, (1) shift per pay period, (1) 12- hour shift must be on a Saturday or Sunday Safety: General safety.Personnel Protective Equipment use PPE as necessary for the jobReports unsafe working conditions- such as wet floors, exposed wires, blocked doorways, obstructions to fire extinguishers, etc. Working Conditions: Works in resident areas as well as throughout the nursing service areaMoves intermittently during work hours.Is subject to frequent interruptions.Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, under all conditions and circumstances.Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.Works beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.Is subject to callback during emergency conditions.Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as to reactions from dust, plastics, synthetics, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other potential contaminants.May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals. Physical and Sensory Requirements: Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.Must be able to lift and carry items weighing 25-50 pounds.Required to reach above, below or at shoulder height, and bend, stoop, push and pull.Required to be able to push elders weighing up to 300 pounds in wheelchair or Geri chair.Sitting: 1-2 hours per 8-hour shift. Alternates frequently to standing or walking.Standing: 2-3 hours per 8-hour shift. Alternates frequently to walking and occasionally to sitting.Walking: 4-5 hours per 8-hour shift.
