Village Music Shoppe is a music retail and services company headquartered in Shirley, New York. The business offers instrument sales, rentals, and repairs, as well as music instruction for learners of various ages and levels. Services include NYSSMA coaching to prepare students for regional evaluations and performances. Village Music Shoppe also provides PA and equipment rentals to support concerts, events, and school programs. Role Description This part-time, on-site Band and Orchestra Teacher role is based in Shirley, NY. The teacher will instruct students in band and orchestral instruments, plan and deliver engaging lessons, and develop curricula that build strong technical skills and musical understanding. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading ensemble rehearsals, preparing students for performances and assessments, such as NYSSMA, and providing individualized guidance to support diverse learning needs. The teacher will collaborate with colleagues and program leaders to organize concerts, manage instrument usage and care, and maintain a positive lesson environment. Additional responsibilities may include communicating with families, tracking student progress, and participating in program events and meetings.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Music Education and general Music theory and practice, with the ability to teach ensemble and individual lessons.
• Proficiency in Orchestral Music, including repertoire selection, score reading, and ensemble rehearsal techniques.
• Ability to teach string instruments such as Violin and Cello, with solid technique and pedagogical methods.
• Experience working with school-age learners.
• Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Performance, or a related field; teaching certification is a plus.
• Effective communication, classroom management, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
• Willingness to collaborate with staff and participate in concerts, events, and community outreach.
