RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant)

Unit Notes: Suites 6 but only use 5. Average number of cases per day: 15. Required certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?): BLS, ACLS. Common cases: Ortho: totals-knees, hips, shoulders; knee and shoulder scopes, TSAs (a lot); Urology-don't do many nephrectomies but everything else from cystos, ESWLs, TURPS, penile prothesis, orchiectomies, open prostates (not required); GYN-lots of hysters, D&C, slings, robotic hysters, a lot of GYN oncology, salphingooophrectomy; neuro- a lot of ortho spine, brain tumors, cranis, subdural hematomas, transsphenoidal tumors, VP shunts; hands, podiatry, DaVinci, vascular-a lot of small stuff AV fistulas, thrombectomies, carotids, endarterectomies, fem pops-open; general surgery-open, lap, robotics; ENT-tonsils, adenoids, pediatrics ENT, bariatrics, and eyes. Experience or'must have' skills: Ortho, robotics (deal breaker if they do not have experience), neuro, gyn (SW) experience. Scrubbing required - RN's. Is there a charge nurse &/or house supervisor on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge - no assignment unless short staffed. Duties: Assist physician as directed. OR techs? Yes. EMR Cerner. Shifts & scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): Work with the manager on scheduling - block scheduling at their discretion. Shifts start at 7am but the lengths will vary on need which will be in the request to you. It is Mon-FRI with call and float between campuses if needed. Weeknight/Call requirements: Yes, varies by rotation. Call hours are end of shift until beginning of next day. Call can be as much as every other weekend and two days a week average. It depends on how many RNFA's we have. RNFA's on weekends cover both campuses but are not required for all cases. Weekend/Call requirements: Yes, varies by rotation. Holiday/Call requirements: Yes.
