Job Summary

The Brick Monorail Packaging Supervisor oversees the safe and efficient operation of the brick packaging area. This position supervises Hackers, packaging machine operators, strapping head operators, and the Packaging Forklift Operator. Responsibilities include coordinating workflow, meeting production requirements, maintaining product quality and identification, monitoring equipment, managing employee timekeeping, and enforcing company safety procedures.

Essential Job Functions

• Supervise and direct packaging area employees, including Hackers, packaging machine operators, strapping head operators, and the Packaging Forklift Operator.
• Coordinate staffing and workflow to meet daily production requirements.
• Monitor production and address staffing, equipment, quality, or workflow issues.
• Ensure Hackers properly remove brick from kiln cars and place brick into monorail bins according to established procedures.
• Ensure kiln cars, brick products, production runs, and finished cubes are properly identified.
• Supervise packaging and strapping operations and ensure equipment is operated safely and correctly.
• Inspect finished brick cubes for proper formation, stability, strapping, product identification, cube cards, brick names, and run numbers.
• Supervise forklift operations and ensure proper movement and placement of brick cubes and materials.
• Operate a forklift as needed.
• Inspect monorail, packaging, strapping, and related equipment and report equipment problems or needed repairs.
• Perform or ensure completion of required equipment inspections, greasing, and routine maintenance checks.
• Train and coach employees on job duties, equipment operation, product identification, quality requirements, and safety procedures.
• Monitor employee productivity, attendance, work quality, and performance.
• Review employee time in WorkEasy daily and coordinate necessary corrections.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas, walkways, platforms, and equipment areas.
• Communicate production, equipment, quality, safety, and employee concerns to the Superintendent.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, squat, twist, turn, push, pull, and reach.
• Ability to climb stairs and access elevated work areas and platforms.
• Ability to lift, carry, and handle materials weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to safely enter, exit, and operate a forklift.
• Ability to use hands, arms, legs, and feet to operate machinery and equipment.
• Ability to visually inspect brick, finished cubes, straps, cube cards, kiln cars, equipment, and work areas.
• Ability to hear alarms, equipment sounds, verbal instructions, and warning signals.
• Ability to work for extended periods in hot industrial conditions.

Work Environment

Work is performed in an industrial brick-manufacturing and packaging environment around hot brick, kiln cars, monorail systems, conveyors, packaging machinery, strapping equipment, forklifts, and other industrial equipment. Employees may be exposed to heat, cold, dust, noise, vibration, moving machinery, and brick debris. The position requires regular movement throughout the packaging area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to supervise and coordinate employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn hacking, monorail, packaging, strapping, and forklift operations.
• Strong attention to detail when verifying product names, spelling, run numbers, cube cards, kiln cars, and finished products.
• Ability to identify improperly formed, packaged, strapped, or identified brick cubes.
• Ability to coordinate staffing and workflow to meet production requirements.
• Ability to identify equipment problems, unsafe conditions, and improper work practices.
• Ability to train, coach, and provide clear direction to employees.
• Ability to manage employee timekeeping records in WorkEasy.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees, Maintenance, the Superintendent, and management.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous manufacturing, production, packaging, or industrial experience preferred.
• Previous brick-manufacturing and supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Previous forklift experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to use company timekeeping and production systems.
• Must successfully complete required forklift training and evaluation and maintain company authorization.

Schedule

Shift times may vary based on location and operational needs. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required. Work schedules may change based on business and production needs.

Safety Requirements

• Follow and enforce all company safety policies, procedures, PPE requirements, and safe work practices.
• Ensure employees properly use required PPE and follow established safety and operating procedures.
• Ensure employees are properly acclimated to heat and hot brick before performing full production duties.
• Ensure employees remain hydrated and follow required heat-safety procedures and breaks.
• Monitor employees for signs of heat-related concerns and take appropriate action.
• Inspect spot coolers and other heat-control equipment and report problems.
• Inspect equipment and work areas for unsafe conditions and ensure guards, emergency stops, and other safety devices remain operational.
• Never bypass, disable, or interfere with safety devices.
• Ensure Lockout/Tagout procedures are followed when applicable.
• Follow company powered industrial truck procedures and supervise safe forklift operation.
• Immediately address or report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, incidents, injuries, property damage, and near misses.
• Participate in required safety meetings, inspections, and training.
