Our client, an AI finance startup, is hiring for Product Engineering. As a leader on the Engineering team, you won't just ship code — you'll own a product. That means thinking deeply about the customer, prioritizing across competing features, executing against company objectives, and taking accountability for pushing the product forward.
LLMs allow general intelligence to be embedded directly within software, challenging conventional principles of product design. We don't yet have all the answers on what the "right" product experience looks like in this new paradigm — but we know it goes far beyond a simple chatbot, just as mobile-first design was never simply a shrunken desktop experience.
Product engineering here isn't just about building the best experience for today's users. It's about charting the path toward the future of human-software interaction.
Responsibilities
- Own the product vision across everything Basis builds
- Architect front-end and back-end/API systems that work seamlessly together
- Develop strong opinions on the right way to solve customer problems, grounded in direct user contact
What We're Looking For
- 3–10 years of experience building products from 0 to 1 as a full-stack engineer
- Background at a fast-paced startup (Series A–D) or a top quantitative hedge fund (e.g., Citadel, Two Sigma), with a track record of high ownership over projects
- Strong tenure at each role (2+ years) with clear career progression
- Undergraduate degree from a top-40 global university (e.g., Waterloo, Harvard, Oxford, Berkeley); a strong GPA is a plus for earlier-career candidates
- Deep expertise in at least one full-stack language, paired with strong product instincts and design sense
- Comfort adapting quickly and adopting the best available tools for the job, even if unfamiliar
- Experience working directly with clients and users to gather feedback and iterate — product management chops are a strong plus
- Prior experience building with AI/LLM-powered products is ideal
- A genuinely intense drive to work on hard, ambiguous problems
- Excited to work in person, alongside a team, in office
