Department Information The College of Computing was established in 1990 as the first such College at a public university and the second in the United States. Since that time, the college has grown into a world-class leader in research and education. The graduate CS program is currently ranked 6th nationally, and the undergraduate program is ranked 5th, by U.S. News and World Report. The College consists of five Schools that provide specialized and general computing education to the entire campus. With over 16-degree programs, including its world-renowned online MS in CS, we believe the College is the largest Computing unit in the United States and, as such, one of the largest producers of computationalists at all levels and across all demographic backgrounds. The College is a part of the Georgia Institute of Technology, a unit of the University System of Georgia, and is primarily located in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia. Job Summary Network Engineers are responsible for maintaining, optimizing, and securing the institution's network infrastructure to ensure reliable connectivity and high performance for all users. This role involves diagnosing and resolving network issues, implementing scalable and resilient network solutions, and collaborating with other IT teams to enhance the overall network environment. Network Engineers play a critical role in supporting the institution's technological needs and ensuring seamless access to digital resources. Responsibilities Job Duty 1 - Monitor the performance and reliability of the institution's network infrastructure, identifying and resolving issues to maintain optimal connectivity for users. Job Duty 2 - Configure and install network equipment, such as routers, switches, and firewalls, to ensure efficient data transmission and secure access to resources. Job Duty 3 - Conduct regular network assessments and audits to evaluate security measures and identify vulnerabilities that may impact the institution's data integrity. Job Duty 4 - Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps to create a knowledge base that supports effective issue resolution and team collaboration. Job Duty 5 - Provide technical support and guidance to faculty, staff, and students regarding network-related issues, ensuring prompt and effective solutions. Job Duty 6 - Stay informed about emerging networking technologies and industry best practices, recommending enhancements that could improve the institution's network performance. Job Duty 7 - Participate in planning and executing network upgrades and expansions, coordinating with vendors and stakeholders to minimize disruptions to services. Job Duty 8 - Prepare reports on network performance metrics, incidents, and resolutions, presenting findings to management to inform decision-making and resource allocation. Job Duty 9 - Collaborate with other Information Technology teams to design and implement network solutions that support the institution's goals and enhance user experiences. Job Duty 10 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced certification may be preferred or required. Required Experience Four or more years of relevant experience. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications Master's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent. Knowledge of Cisco and Juniper switch deployment and maintenance. Basic Linux systems experience. Knowledge of a UNIX scripting language (e.g. perl, bash, etc.). Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities SKILLS This job requires expert knowledge of and leadership skills in the installation and maintenance of highly complex information technology hardware and software, requiring recognized technical expertise. Included are skills in problem solving, decision making, technical/project leadership, customer service, system documentation and communications.
