Production Machine Operator

Job Title: Production Machine Operator Job Description This role supports a team-focused manufacturing operation that produces steel components for major commercial and industrial construction projects. You will work directly with steel materials, operate production machinery, and assist with general production tasks in a fast-paced environment. Entry-level and experienced candidates are welcome, and comprehensive training is provided for those new to manufacturing. Responsibilities Prepare, cut, and process steel materials for construction assemblies according to production specifications. Operate production machinery and equipment safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures. Rotate between different workstations and job functions to support changing production needs. Inspect materials and finished products to ensure they meet quality and measurement standards, using tools such as tape measures and other measuring devices. Perform basic assembly and fabrication tasks using hand tools and power tools. Support general production activities, including packing, material handling, and staging of products. Assist with shear, press, saw, and other machine operations as directed by supervision. Contribute to construction-related tasks such as framing, basic carpentry, and fabrication when needed. Help with yard work, site cleanup, and maintaining a clean, organized production area. Follow all safety rules and guidelines, participate in safety initiatives, and promptly report any concerns. Work collaboratively with team members to meet daily and weekly production goals. Maintain a safety-conscious workspace by keeping tools, equipment, and materials organized and in good working condition. Essential Skills Previous experience working in manufacturing, production, construction, or a similar fast-paced, hands-on role is preferred. Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding work in a fast-paced environment, including standing, lifting, and moving materials throughout the shift. Ability to operate or learn to operate production machinery, including shear, press, saw, and other equipment. Experience using hand tools and power tools for tasks such as cutting, assembly, framing, or basic carpentry. Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with steel materials and industrial equipment. Ability to read and use a tape measure and other basic measuring tools to verify dimensions and quality. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve production targets. Positive attitude, reliability, and eagerness to learn new skills and processes. Flexibility to work overtime, extended shifts up to 10 hours, and occasional Saturdays as needed. Availability to work within a schedule window that may fall between approximately 3:00 PM and 2:30 AM when overtime is scheduled. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous machine operation or machine operating experience in a production or industrial setting. Background in general labor, construction, framing, carpentry, or fabrication. Experience with general production tasks such as packing, material handling, or assembly work. Familiarity with hand and power tools used in metalworking or construction environments. Experience with yard work, site cleanup, or similar physically active roles. Work Environment The role is based in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility that can become very hot during the summer months, so you should be comfortable working in varying temperatures. All new hires complete training on 1st shift for approximately 1 to 4 weeks before moving to their assigned shift. A typical 2nd shift schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM and Friday from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with an additional shift differential for off-shift employees. Overtime is communicated the Thursday prior to the workweek and is typically scheduled before or after your regular shift; occasional Saturday work may be required, and shifts may extend up to 10 hours. You will work with steel materials, production machinery such as shears, presses, and saws, and a variety of hand and power tools in a fast-paced, industrial environment that emphasizes safety, teamwork, and productivity. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St Clair, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
