Credit Risk Analyst - Fintech

Job Description

A growing financial services and alternative lending organization is seeking a Credit Risk Analyst to support its small business lending and underwriting operations.

This position will focus on evaluating borrower creditworthiness, analyzing financial performance, assessing lending risk, and monitoring existing credit relationships. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience underwriting small business financing products, including Lines of Credit, Merchant Cash Advances (MCA), factoring, working capital loans, or similar alternative lending products.

Candidates with experience in fintech, alternative lending, specialty finance, or entrepreneurial financial services environments are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate small business loan applications and assess borrower creditworthiness and overall risk exposure.

• Analyze business financial statements, bank statements, cash flow, credit reports, and other supporting financial documentation.
\n
• Underwrite small business financing products, including lines of credit, working capital loans, merchant cash advances, and factoring arrangements.
\n
• Conduct credit risk assessments and provide recommendations regarding financing approvals, credit limits, and loan structures.
\n
• Monitor existing credit relationships to identify potential deterioration in borrower financial performance.
\n
• Review account performance, payment history, and financial trends to identify emerging credit risks.
\n
• Evaluate credit renewals, modifications, and increases to existing financing arrangements.
\n
• Partner with Underwriting, Portfolio Management, Account Management, and senior leadership on credit-related decisions.
\n
• Identify potential credit concerns and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
\n
• Maintain accurate credit files, financial analyses, and supporting documentation.
\n
• Assist with credit reporting, portfolio reviews, and ongoing risk management initiatives.

Qualifications

\n
• 2+ years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, credit risk, or small business lending.
\n
• Hands-on experience evaluating credit risk for small business borrowers.
\n
• Experience with Lines of Credit, MCA, factoring, working capital financing, or similar lending products strongly preferred.
\n
• Ability to analyze business financial statements, bank statements, cash flow, and borrower repayment capacity.
\n
• Strong understanding of credit underwriting principles, borrower risk assessment, and portfolio performance.
\n
• Experience within fintech, alternative lending, specialty finance, or smaller financial services organizations preferred.
\n
• Candidates from Account Management or Portfolio Management backgrounds will be considered if they have direct experience evaluating borrower credit risk, reviewing financials, monitoring credit performance, or making credit recommendations.

• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
\n
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
\n
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
\n
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field preferred.
