CT/Radiology Technologist (PRN) - STAT Specialty Hospital Del Rio, TX

Overview The Radiology Technologist operates radiographic equipment to produce radiographs of the body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the ER Physician by the Radiologist accepted protocol. The technologist positions the patient and examining table to obtain optimum views of the area requested by the physician and applies ALARA radiation safety principles, using beam-restrictive devices and patient shielding to maximize protection for patients and staff. The technologist also operates CT scan equipment to produce Computed Tomography (CT) scans as required, administers and consents for contrast (IV and oral), and ensures proper documentation in the patient’s chart. The primary goal is patient safety and high-quality diagnostic exams. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Maintains awareness of all departmental and operational policies of NEC. Assists in the maintenance of all equipment in the department, including cleaning and QA procedures. Explains to patients the benefits and risks of procedures and exams. Prepares patient as necessary for examination (e.g., contrast, proper IV placements, checking labs). Facilitates departmental operations through completion of all appropriate Contrast, Extravasations, Pregnancy, and related forms. Maintains safety precautions to minimize radiation exposure to patients, other personnel, and self. Maintains current knowledge of Diagnostic Radiology/CT procedures performed in the Radiology Department. Possesses basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology needed to apply radiology principles and obtain diagnostic-quality images. Possesses basic knowledge of radiology/CT equipment functioning to perform minor repairs and troubleshooting. Proficient in the utilization of all radiological/lab equipment of the ER. Uses proper body mechanics when moving or lifting patients and equipment to prevent injuries. Applies radiology safety principles in performance of responsibilities. Maintains awareness of personal limitations and seeks guidance when needed. Communicates problems or concerns to appropriate personnel. Provides safe transportation of patients to and from the patient care unit. Qualifications Education and/or Experience : Graduate of an accredited approved school of Radiologic Technology; at least 1 year of radiologic/imaging experience and CT experience. Language/Math/Reasoning Ability : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information; perform basic mathematical operations; interpret data and graphs; apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions. Certificates/Licenses : Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; current state licensure; current BCLS certification.
