Salary: $32,000-$40,000 annually, commensurate with experience

The Inner-City Neighborhood Art House was established in 1995 by the Benedictine Sisters of Erie to empower youth through creative experiences, encourage positive self-expression, and help young people develop into confident and caring members of the community.

Through programs in the visual, performing, and literary arts, as well as environmental education, the Neighborhood Art House provides a safe, nurturing, and welcoming environment where youth can explore their creativity at no cost to their families.

Position Summary

The Community Art Program Assistant works closely with the Community Art Program Director and Executive Director to support community-based arts programming that serves youth, families, homeschool students, and adults throughout the Erie region.

This position combines program coordination, administrative support, communications, event planning, and hands-on assistance with community arts programming. The ideal candidate is highly organized, creative, adaptable, and passionate about the arts and community engagement.

The Community Art Program Assistant helps ensure that the mission and values of the Neighborhood Art House and the Benedictine Sisters of Erie are reflected throughout all programming and community interactions.

Primary Responsibilities

Program Support

• Assist with all Community Art Program, including adult workshops, Homeschool art classes, Second Saturdays, and Summer Day Camp programming.
• Become familiar with all Community Art Program offerings and assist with program coverage when needed.
• Support classroom operations, including setup, cleanup, attendance tracking, and student check-in and dismissal.
• Assist with behavior management and classroom support when necessary.
• Help maintain program supplies, donations, and storage areas.

Administrative Support

• Maintain attendance records, class lists, evaluations, and surveys.
• Assist with data entry and database management.
• Help prepare faculty timecards and maintain faculty mailboxes.
• Monitor program calendars and proactively track upcoming deadlines and events.
• Assist with mailings, correspondence, and general office support.

Communications & Community Outreach

• Assist in creating promotional materials and community outreach efforts.
• Help maintain an active presence through the organization's website, Facebook, Instagram, and other media outlets.
• Assist with email communications, newsletters, and community calendar submissions.
• Write and contribute stories highlighting Neighborhood Art House programs and participants.

Events & Exhibitions

• Assist with planning, setup, execution, and teardown of special events, performances, art exhibitions, fundraisers, and community celebrations.
• Support student art shows through documentation, framing, installation, and related administrative tasks.
• Assist with Open House/Showcase events, and all other major organizational events.

Organizational Support

• Collaborate with staff, teaching artists, volunteers, families, and community partners.
• Provide support across Afterschool and Summer Programs when needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Demonstrated experience in a related field such as arts administration, nonprofit programs, education, youth development, community engagement, or event coordination.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to learn new software and database systems quickly.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Pennsylvania driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
• Ability to obtain all required Pennsylvania child clearances and background checks.

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree in arts administration, education, nonprofit management, communications, fine arts, or a related field.
• Background or experience in visual, performing, literary, or community arts.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop.
• Experience managing social media, websites, or digital communications.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to walk several miles during field trips and program activities.
• Ability to perform routine set-up and clean-up activities for classes and events.

Schedule

This is a full-time exempt position.

The schedule is primarily daytime hours; however, flexibility is required. Candidates must be available:

• One evening per week
• The second Saturday of each month
• Additional evenings or weekends for major events and community programming as needed
