About the RoleAs the head of Data Science and Data Engineering within Search and Discovery, you will lead an organization responsible for understanding how customers are interacting with Search and Recommendations on Coupang and determine how to improve the Search and Discovery experience accordingly. This role works directly with both Search and Coupang leadership and requires the ability to both understand the extremely nuanced complexities of LLMs/Ranking models/statistics and communicate the corresponding strategic recommendations to the C-suite.What You Will DoLead a global 20-person organization composed of Data Scientists and Data Engineers, including directorsProvide guidance on how to optimize LLMs, Ranking models, personalization systems to improve customer outcomesLead the experimentation function, providing clarity on when launches help vs harm our customers, based on deep metrics synthesisPartner with leads across different organizations to ensure Search is maximizing value for customers in all areas of the businessWhat We’re Looking ForRequired Qualifications12+ years of experience in data science/analytics5+ years of experience in people managementDeep expertise in experimentation and statisticsAbility to communicate data concepts simply and succinctly to cross-functional team members, up to the C-suiteUnderstanding of ML concepts, and how different model configurations affect model outcomesPreferred QualificationsExperience in e-commerce or marketplace environmentsExperience leading global or multi-region teamsExperience building 01 products or new product surfacesBackground in fast-scaling consumer technology companiesPay & Benefits: Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.  The base pay for this position ranges from $184,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $376,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
