Overview Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the 1 East Ortho Spine Bariatrics Unit. This is a full‑time third‑shift position (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, rotating weekend schedule) located in Suffolk, VA. A sign‑on bonus of up to $8,000 is available for qualified candidates. Location & Shift City/State: Suffolk, VA Shift: Third (Nights) – 7 PM to 7 AM, with rotating weekend schedule Position: Full Time, 1 East Ortho Spine Bariatrics Unit About the Unit The 1 East Surgery Unit is a 24‑bed unit specializing in orthopedics, spine, and bariatrics. The team provides high‑quality, short‑stay care with an average patient stay of 1–2 days. The nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 1:5 or 1:6, and each shift typically results in 6–8 patient discharges. The unit supports rapid learning through a comprehensive orientation program and biweekly learning strategy sessions. Patient Care Technicians assist with 8–12 patients to provide seamless support, and dedicated Unit Coordinators and preceptors foster a nurturing environment for skill development and professional growth. Key Responsibilities The LPN functions under the supervision of an RN or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP). Responsibilities include: Providing direct patient care within the scope of practice dictated by state nursing boards. Performing medication administration, testing, and implementing nursing interventions and care plans. Communicating effectively with physicians, NPs, and PAs, and collaborating within a multidisciplinary team. Serving as a patient advocate in the prevention of illness or disease. Adhering to legal and ethical nursing standards and maintaining accurate workload management. Education & Certification Trade School Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nursing Program (Required) Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of practice (required) BLS certification within 90 days of hire (required) Experience Acute care nursing experience preferred. Background in stroke or telemetry preferred. None required – training will be provided.
