JOB SUMMARY:
The OB/Nursery Registered Nurse will perform the primary functions including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for mothers and infants throughout labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and newborn periods, ensuring safe, high-quality clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction. Participate in performance improvement activities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
▪ Responsible for managing all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment in the department.
▪ Oversee the daily workflow of the department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

▪ Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassess as needed. This includes neonates and the general population.
▪ Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform resuscitation according to NRP guidelines.
▪ Administer medications and IV therapies per provider orders and protocols.
▪ Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
▪ Formulate a teaching plan based on learning needs and evaluate effectiveness of learning.
▪ Demonstrate knowledge of fetal monitoring and identify FHR patterns and treats appropriately based upon AACOG standards.
▪ Communicates appropriately and clearly to co-workers and physicians.
▪ Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
▪ Coordinates and supervises patient care.

▪ Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
▪ Adheres to dress code.
▪ Uses a computerized clock time system.
▪ Follows departmental and hospital wide policies and procedures.
▪ Completes hospital-wide in-services and completes annual educational requirements,
▪ Attend all departmental staff meetings.
▪ Keeps equipment clean and maintained according to hospital and departmental policies.
▪ Maintains HIPPA and confidential guidelines of all information regarding employees, patients, and medical staff.
▪ Reports to work on time as scheduled and keeps absences to a minimum.

▪ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
▪ Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
▪ Must possess the ability to deal with personnel, patients, visitors, and government agencies in a tactful manner.
▪ Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
▪ Must possess computer skills.
▪ Must be able to work independently and be a self-starter.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
▪ Completion of RN program from an accredited college.
▪ BCLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications.
▪ Successful completion of AWHONN Fetal Monitoring
▪ Previous Labor and Delivery experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
▪ Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
▪ Must be able to speak the English language.
▪ Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
▪ Must be able to function independently, have personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, personnel, and support agencies.
▪ Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

● Consistently follows all established Safety procedures, incident/accident protocol and precautions or universal precautions when performing duties relating to work area.
● Follows good infection control practices at all times and is familiar with Infection control policies, procedures PPE guidelines and guidance relevant to area of work.
● Participate in Code Pink, maternal rapid response, and neonatal resuscitation.
● Practices proper body mechanics and ergonomics at all times.
● Follows established plans, policies and procedures during emergencies, such as fire evacuation, fire drills and actively participates in emergency exercises/disasters etc.
● Reports all Life Safety maintenance issues, defective equipment, etc. through the Environmental Services work order system.
