The UNC Health Johnston Special Care Nursery is a Level II NICU with 3 licensed beds on our Smithfield Campus. Through our partnership with REX Neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, along with a highly skilled healthcare team, we specialize in the care of infants requiring medical treatment due to complications and neonatal transitional problems. Our team has a strong commitment to families and provides excellent patient‑ and family‑centered care and lactation support. Summary Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attends education programs, uses patient education materials, and assesses patient/family readiness to learn. Evaluation of Care – Identifies expected patient outcomes, seeks guidance in revising the plan of care, participates in interdisciplinary discussions, and communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, performs bedside point‑of‑care testing, follows organization policies, prioritizes care, and consults with resources for complex issues. Leadership – Develops and achieves professional goals, promotes collaboration, participates in unit goals and performance improvement, uses communication systems effectively, promotes cost‑effective care, provides feedback, and maintains a safe environment. Patient Assessment – Recognizes data from complex situations to set care priorities, synthesizes assessment data, anticipates discharge needs, and builds relationships with families to empower them. Planning – Collaborates with patients/families to update care plans, uses multidisciplinary resources, and addresses cultural and ethnic issues. Research – Reads relevant journals and brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Other Information Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience.
