As the largest affordable housing provider in the state, Nevada HAND owns and/or manages 37 apartment communities across the Las Vegas Valley, serving more than 8,300 seniors, working adults, and children. Through innovative development strategies and strong partnerships, the organization offers apartment homes at rental rates below market value. Nearly 300 team members work across specialized departments—including real estate development, construction, property management, resident services, senior living, and corporate administration—to enhance the resident experience and improve quality of life. Role Description The Benefits Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Henderson, NV, responsible for administering and supporting employee benefit programs across Nevada HAND’s workforce. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing enrollments, changes, and terminations in benefit plans; maintaining accurate benefits records; and serving as a primary contact for employee questions related to health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement benefits. The role coordinates leaves of absence, including those under the U.S. Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), ensuring compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and timelines. The Benefits Specialist works closely with insurance carriers, brokers, and internal departments to resolve issues, support open enrollment activities, and assist with benefits-related communications and training. This position also contributes to process improvements and assists with audits, reporting, and other human resources projects as needed. Qualifications Experience in benefits administration, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans. Knowledge of the U.S. Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and related leave policies, with the ability to ensure compliance and accurate documentation. Understanding of insurance concepts and processes, including plan design, eligibility, claims resolution, and vendor coordination. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex benefits information clearly and support employees at all levels. Commitment to high-quality customer service, including responsiveness, empathy, and problem-solving in employee interactions. Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration systems, and strong attention to detail in data entry and recordkeeping. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and maintain compliance with privacy standards. Preferred: Previous experience in human resources or benefits roles, particularly within nonprofit or multi-entity organizations.
