ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE The Safety & Security Officer plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Neighborhood Healthcare by fostering a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is responsible for security patrols, incident prevention, and delivering compassionate, service‑oriented support aligned with our mission. It requires a proactive approach to risk mitigation, basic safety‑related maintenance, and respectful interaction across diverse backgrounds. SCHEDULE Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM RESPONSIBILITIES Safety & Security Operations: Conduct high‑visibility security patrols throughout clinical buildings, grounds, and parking areas. Monitor and report potential safety hazards or environmental concerns (e.g., broken lights, spills, unsafe walkways). Respond promptly and professionally to incidents involving patients, visitors, or staff, and document thoroughly. Follow established safety protocols and organizational procedures in all interactions and decisions. Always remain alert and visible to provide a reassuring presence. Enforce access control policies, visitor screening, and facility protocols respectfully. Escort employees, visitors, or patients to vehicles or destinations when requested. Complete Security Event Log (SEL) entries promptly after incidents or observations. Administration & Compliance: Greet and assist patients, employees, and guests courteously. Escort patients using facility‑provided wheelchairs to entrances. Perform basic maintenance tasks when safety or cleanliness is compromised. Report unsafe conditions to safety/security leadership. Follow all safety procedures as outlined in our Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP). Maintain knowledge of policies and procedures related to safety work practices. Be familiar with fire extinguishers, emergency exits, evacuation routes, and utilities shut‑offs. Follow infection control procedures, including blood‑borne pathogen protocols. Maintain privacy of all patient and employee information. Comply with all corporate integrity and safety/security obligations. Report unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful behavior to management. Security Officer Duties & Expectations: Serve as a role model for professionalism, customer service, and safe conduct across all sites. Travel between sites for training, event support, critical incident response, and other operational needs. Demonstrate compassion, integrity, and cultural sensitivity in every interaction. Help create a welcoming and caring environment for those we serve. Support the organization’s mission by promoting safety that reinforces trust, equity, and access to care. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor. Participate in safety and security training, including de‑escalation and emergency preparedness. Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to sites for operational needs. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Current active CA Guard Card required. One year’s experience as a security officer required or similar work experience. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire and must be maintained. Valid CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance required. Personal cell phone (monthly stipend provided) and personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement). Experience in healthcare, public safety, or community service settings preferred. Bilingual (Spanish) highly preferred. Pay Range $22.02 – $29.41 per hour, depending on experience (DOE). Compensation Disclosure The posted salary range reflects the designated pay grade for this position. Actual compensation depends on several factors including knowledge, skills, experience, market data, internal equity, and budgetary considerations.
