RN - Emergency Department

This position is for an RN in the Emergency Department. The facility has a Level IV Trauma Center and a Level III NICU. It is a teaching hospital that has 228 beds. The Emergency Department consists of 35 beds with 6 fast track rooms. Approximately 168 patients are seen per day. The patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics with all Emergency Department diagnoses. There is a heavy mental health population. Invasive neuro cases and STEMI requiring catheterization are stabilized and then transferred. Trauma cases include gunshot wounds, stabbings, falls, and motor vehicle collisions. Patient ratios during day and night shifts are 1:4, based on acuity. Fast track ratios are 1:6. Support on the unit includes a unit secretary and ED technicians available 24/7. ED technicians can draw blood and conduct glucose checks. A charge nurse is available who may have lower acuity assignments depending on staffing needs. Phlebotomy services may respond in trauma situations and assist with blood cultures or difficult sticks. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7. ED physicians and mid-level providers are also available around the clock. An ED educator is part of the team. Security services are present and the unit operates as a locked unit. Central and bedside telemetry monitoring is conducted. Charting system used is EPIC with Alaris and Pyxis equipment. Shift scheduling may vary based on requisition, with evening shifts from 1100 to 2300. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend. Holiday expectations include working 2 out of 4 major holidays or every other holiday. Scrub colors must be professional and of any color.
