Kitchen Assistant

Location:  Mid San Diego near Kearny Mesa

Position Overview: 

This position is working as a Kitchen Helper to the Chef and Kitchen Staff.   Working in a large-scale professional environment focusing on Mass Packaging – Freezing meals and preparing for distribution of frozen meals to the community or various facilities.

Responsibilities Include :

• Helping to package meals (hot meals, salads, fresh fruits, soups, and sides) and preparing to freeze.
• Accurately maintain food logs. 
• Maintain sanitation, safety, organization and helping as necessary with cleanliness of the kitchen.  To note – There are separate janitorial employees that handle the cleaning tasks. 
• Follow general food safety guidelines at all times.  
• Operate industrial kitchen equipment such as meal-sealing machine,  dishwasher and possibly a Microwave to reheat (But unlikely) since food is not served out of this kitchen.
• Work along side others and potentially over-see kitchen volunteers.
• Maintain consistent and respectful communication with all team members, volunteers, and supervisor at all times.  

Requirements Include:

• Food Industry experience – Preferred but not required.
• Bilingual Spanish – Preferred.
• Ability to listen and follow instructions.
• Standing ~ 60% of the workday.

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting – Seldom.  Less than 20% of the day.
• Bending- Sometimes – Possibly 35% of the day.
• Stooping- Less than 20% of the day.
• Walking – Sometimes  ~ 20% of the day.
• Lifting/Carrying/Pushing Pulling – Sometimes - ~  25% of the day.  Possibly to 30 Lbs.
• Standard hearing and visual with ability to read printed material.
• No protective clothing or equipment required - Other than a Hair Net and Thin plastic type Poly gloves.

Compensation:  $20-$22 Hr.
