Summary :
The Executive Director of Community Health provides strategic leadership for community health, health promotion, and disease prevention initiatives that support the organization’s mission to improve health outcomes and access through community and rural engagement efforts across North Carolina. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, this role advances innovative, data-informed strategies that address identified population health needs and disparities.
Positioned within the Community Health and Rural Engagement (CHE) team, the Executive Director oversees the planning, development, and execution of community-based programs and partnerships while leading multidisciplinary teams to achieve measurable outcomes. This role requires an experienced leader with a strong healthcare systems background and demonstrated success operating within complex healthcare environments. The ideal candidate will bring a strong leadership presence, experience bridging academic, clinical, research, and community stakeholders, and the ability to effectively communicate and present across diverse audiences. A strong system healthcare background is highly preferred, with a PhD or terminal degree desired.
The leader will help align community health strategies with healthcare delivery, operational priorities, and academic collaboration while supporting innovative partnerships and health initiatives across the organization. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, with an anticipated expectation of three (3) onsite days and two (2) remote days per week.
Responsibilities :
Critical role that oversees the partnership program division of CHE which includes Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), Language Access, SOM Partnerships, and Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) partnerships.
Supervises two (2) direct reports and eight (8) indirect reports including medical fellows.
Establishes and maintains high-impact partnerships with community organizations, public agencies, and key stakeholders.
Bridges academic, clinical, and community partners to advance coordinated health promotion and disease prevention efforts and that address local health needs and disparities.
Supports clinical faculty external funding opportunities to sustain and grow new community health initiatives. Develop and implement comprehensive community health programs and initiatives.
Lead a team of professionals to ensure effective program planning, implementation, and evaluation, with an emphasis on reaching underserved rural areas.
Establish partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote health and wellbeing. Engage, partner and collaborate with community leaders and stakeholders to ensure culturally sensitive and inclusive approaches to disease prevention, treatment, and education.
Develop and implement comprehensive disease prevention programs and initiatives tailored to the unique needs of populations. Monitor and evaluate program outcomes to measure effectiveness and make data-driven decisions. Oversee budgeting, and financial management for community health programming and activities. Oversee and direct the planning and delivery of mobile unit services to increase access to care.
Monitor and analyze public health data to identify trends and inform program development, paying particular attention to health indicators.
Successful implementation of evidence-based interventions with measurable outcomes in rural settings.

● Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of related experience, with at least seven (7) years of management experience.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Proven experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Proven experience in designing and implementing disease prevention programs, particularly in rural or underserved communities.
● Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with an understanding of rural health dynamics.
● Knowledge of public health policies and regulations, with an emphasis on addressing health disparities.
