Position Overview Police Officer for Corinth Police Department (TCOLE certified preferred). The position provides responsive and courteous police services in the protection of life and property through routine patrol, interventions, assistance, investigations and traffic regulation duties. Key Responsibilities Preserve the peace of the community through mediation, investigation, intervention, assistance, documentation, and arrest; utilize all lawful means to improve the quality of life. Patrol the city, respond to citizen requests, enforce traffic regulations, detect crime, apprehend violators and assure public safety. Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, provide scene security, interview victims, witnesses, suspects, and assist Fire and Medical personnel. Enforce local, state and federal laws and compliance with local regulations and ordinances according to Department policies. Investigate crimes and accidents, secure and process crime scenes, collect evidence. Arrest law violators, transport and process suspects, victims and prisoners. Complete detailed reports and required paperwork. Maintain vehicle and equipment per Department standards. Represent the city in court hearings, prepare reports and testify. Assist and coordinate with other emergency services and law enforcement agencies. Provide education and information programs for community and school awareness projects. Perform specialized functions in areas such as training, K‑9, SWAT, event security, computer systems, and other special enforcement teams. Cooperate with co‑workers to accomplish work efficiently and effectively. Maintain regular, predictable attendance. Perform other duties as assigned or required. Minimum Qualifications Age: At least 21 years of age at time of written exam. Citizenship: United States citizen. Education: High School diploma or GED. Certification: TCOLE certified or a current peace officer in another state that can obtain TCOLE certification. Driver’s License: Valid Texas Class C driver license before employment. Mental Condition: Pass board interview, polygraph and psychological examination. Physical Condition: Pass physical (medical) examination and drug screen. Vision: 20/20 vision, corrected or uncorrected; must be free of dichromatic color blindness, night blindness and other visual deficiencies. Hearing: Pass a hearing test. Criminal Record: No convictions for criminal offense above Class C misdemeanor. Required Knowledge City policies and procedures. City, county, state and federal laws, regulations, codes and ordinances. Texas criminal justice and court systems, and principles of criminal justice records management. Law enforcement methods, practices, and procedures. Basic criminal law on apprehension, arrest, and custody, search and seizure, use of force, etc. Investigative and interrogative procedures and protocols. Local community issues and regional community resources. Geography, roads and landmarks of City and surrounding areas. Police Department General Orders, policies and procedures. Customer service standards and protocols. Required Skills Exercising controlled discretion in situations requiring diplomacy, fairness and sound judgment. Recognizing suspicious behavior patterns, mediating difficult situations and using effective arrest and control techniques. Interacting with people of diverse backgrounds. Remaining alert and reacting quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Operating motor vehicles and special police equipment during emergency situations. Interpreting laws and regulations, making decisions and maintaining composure under stress. Evaluating facts and evidence, drawing logical conclusions and making recommendations. Care, maintenance and safe operation of firearms, impact weapons, chemical agents and other law enforcement tools. Operating a personal computer utilizing business software. Effective verbal and written communication. Physical Demands / Work Environment Work performed indoors and outdoors, exposure to inclement weather. Required to restrain persons physically, work in uniform on weekdays, weekends and holidays on any assigned shift. Must maintain physical fitness to meet Department standards. Benefits and Equipment The Department provides approximately $10,000 worth of personal equipment per officer, including firearms, boots and other gear. Officers may participate in a take‑home car program with restrictions, receive longevity pay and other generous benefits.
