Position Summary Very Part‑time Chaplain work in Mt Vernon, Washington – likely 1‑3 hrs/week. Chaplains are frontline staff fulfilling the mission and Christian ministry of MCHAP and serve company employees and their immediate families. Responsibilities Serves as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose. Interacts with companies, their employees, and the community in a manner that exhibits character through personal and spiritual disciplines. Ministry: Makes brief visits to company worksites regularly (usually weekly) to interact with employees, building trust and friendship. Visits employees or their families at hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, residences, or other sites to provide care. Provides confidential pastoral discussions on issues such as family matters, divorce, serious illness, care of aging parents, grief, parenting, financial situations, and other personal concerns. Provides referral service and coordinates specialized assistance for employees and families. Assists in planning, conducting, or attending funerals; provides follow‑up support to grieving families. Makes jail visits to employees and families when required. Works with companies to notify families and employees of deaths or serious injuries, offering support to those impacted by tragedies. Provides post‑termination care for laid‑off or terminated employees to facilitate transition to new employment. Facilitates spiritual enrichment activities, typically employee‑sponsored. Provides literature and resources to aid employees with life issues. Represents companies to clients/customers when ministry services are appropriate (e.g., serious illness, accidents, traumatic events, funerals). Participates in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the role of the Chaplain Team. With permission from the Executive Director of Operations, responds positively and assertively to other duties and services requested by executive leadership within the scope of the Letter of Agreement. Requirements Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary group in an interfaith setting; willingness to accept diverse lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values. Skills: effective listening and interaction with clients, employees, and families; delivering community presentations; dealing effectively with family members and staff under stressful circumstances; respecting dignity and worth of clients and families; coping with stressful situations; documenting accurately according to standards. Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and MCHAP ministry values; incorporates Christian values in day‑to‑day activities; fundamental understanding of the Holy Bible; attests to saving faith in Jesus Christ; actively participates in a biblically based church. Professional diplomacy, patience, courtesy with diverse groups; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; exceptional customer service; ability to make administrative and procedural decisions on sensitive, confidential issues. Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to remain emotionally stable when coping with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses. Strong analytical skills to define problems or objectives; ability to identify solutions and solve problems; skill in interpreting policies and procedures and keeping others informed. Proficiency with Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or equivalent software, internet, email, and web‑based applications; ability to learn new technology programs. Must hold an active state driver’s license and meet state minimum auto insurance requirements (in state(s) where clients are serviced).
